Boston College looks to even the season series with Louisville Wednesday night.  The Eagles lost the 1st meeting between the 2 teams 80-70 on January 16th.

Boston College

Boston College entered ACC conference play at 8-3 and were hopeful they could play well enough to earn an NCAA Tournament bid.  Those hopes largely sailed away weeks ago when the Eagles dropped 4 straight games to drop to 11-11.  Barring a miracle, Boston College won’t be playing in the big dance.  There is still hope for postseason play (NIT, CIT, CBI) if they can finish the season on a high note, however.  3 of the Eagles’ remaining 4 games are home games, and the lone road contest left is a winnable game at Georgia Tech.

Considering how tough the competition is in the ACC, Boston College has defended their home court reasonably well.  They are 3-3 at Conte Forum in conference play this season.  If they can win 2 or 3 of their remaining home games and possibly sneak out a victory at Georgia Tech, Boston College will qualify for one of the smaller postseason tournaments.

At 18-10, Louisville has all but solidified its NCAA Tournament bid.  Things could get a little dicey come selection Sunday if the Cardinals lose their remaining 3 regular season games and lose their 1st game in the ACC Conference Tournament.  Even if that does happen, when the quality of your 18 wins are as good as Louisville’s are, and the bubble is as soft as it is this season, Louisville shouldn’t be denied an NCAA Tournament bid.  They have wins over Michigan State, Seton Hall, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, and Clemson.  3 of those 6 wins are road wins.  When you beat that many tournament-worthy opponents and win big time games on the road like the Cardinals have, it’s especially impressive in the eyes of the selection committee.

Louisville has not played well as of late.  They have lost 4 of their last 5 games with the lone victory being a 1 point triumph over Clemson.  In the 1st meeting between Louisville and Boston College, the Cardinals took a 10-point lead into halftime.  They then saw that lead dwindle down to just 5 points with 3 minutes to play in the game.  There’s been no quit in the Eagles either.  They’ve taken their lumps in ACC play but have stayed largely competitive.  Of their 10 ACC losses, only those to Virginia and Duke were by more than 11 points.  I look for Boston College to bring the fight to a staggering Cardinals squad Wednesday night.  Take the Eagles and the points.
