On Saturday, The Baylor Bears are facing off with The Oklahoma Sooners for The Big 12 Championship at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The Bears and The Sooners faced off in mid-November with Oklahoma coming away with a narrow 34-31 victory on the road. After Baylor took an early 28-3 lead in the 2nd quarter, Jalen Hurts came back to throw 4 touchdowns to rally the Sooners over The Bears. That midseason win kept Oklahoma in Playoff talks after OU lost to Kansas State two weeks prior. This Big 12 Championship game on Saturday has even larger implications heading into the final decisions being made on the College Football Playoffs. With #4 Georgia facing off with #1 LSU in the SEC Championship, this leaves the door open for a new 4 seed to jump in if Georgia ends up getting their 2nd loss of the season.

Oklahoma Sooners

With one of the country’s most proficient offenses, you can’t help but think the Oklahoma Sooners are going to take their 5th straight Big 12 Championship on Saturday. The Sooners are currently 5th in the country with 44.3 points per game and 1st in the country with yards per play at 8.31. One of the nation’s early favorites to make it into the Final 4, OU had a big target on their back heading in to the 2019 season, but they had been playing up to the hype. That is until they made their way into Manhattan, KS in late November and got upset on the road to then unranked K-State. That not only dropped OU in the rankings, but also made the climb back into the Football Playoff much more difficult.

OU has had an overall strong season with big wins over Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma State, but their resume hasn’t helped them as much as an SEC team with one loss. To go along with their lack of strength of schedule, OU has a poor defense that has given up big numbers all year and is currently ranked 52nd in the country giving up 24.6 points per game. With a poor defense, The Sooners are at risk of letting a game get out of control at any moment if their offense goes into a stand still. This combination has led The Sooners to some shaky wins this year, including a close win against Iowa State and TCU. Overall this Sooners team has shown why they deserve to be in contention for the National Championship, but they are going to need to play a perfect game to not only beat the Baylor Bears, but to also prove the voters that they deserve a bid into Playoffs over #5 Utah.

Baylor Bears

The Baylor Bears have reached the Big 12 Championship for the 1st time in school history. After a stellar 11-1 season that saw the Bears beating then ranked Texas, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State. Baylor has cemented themselves in their first ever Championship game against The Sooners. Baylor’s lone loss this season came against OU earlier this year after having an early 3 score lead in the 2nd quarter and watching the lead and their undefeated season disappear. The Bears are finally back into the double-digit win column for the first time since reaching 10 wins in 2015.
