This Tuesday, The Boston College Eagles will travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium to face off against the Duke Blue Devils.
You have to have been living under a rock for the past three months to have not heard of the three freshmen tearing it up at Duke. The trio of Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish have led Duke to one of the best records in both the ACC and the NCAA. They’re 19-2 overall and 7-1 in conference, including a big win over No. 4 Virginia. The team is solid on both offense and defense. They put up 87.4 points per game, 88.7 at home. Around 49 of those points come from inside the arc as well, thanks to Barrett and Williamson’s ability to get inside and get easy buckets. Duke also makes 48.8 percent of their shots on average. On defense, the Blue Devils are giving up only 65.7 points per game. Their defense is primarily anchored by Williamson as well as fellow freshman Tre Jones. The spread is a big one for the Blue Devils to cover at 23.5, but this Duke team is more than capable of doing so. They’ve beaten 14 unranked opponents this year, with seven of those victories coming by more than 24. Duke has no problem covering big spreads.
Boston College has not had quite the success Duke has this year. They’re 11-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play, which puts them at 11th in the ACC. Despite this and Duke’s dominance, Boston College is actually still an interesting pick. The reason is that the spread is so big that you have to imagine it’s possible that the Eagles don’t lose by 24 or more. They’re also 5-0 ATS in their last five on the road, which makes them that much more intriguing a pick. They have an NBA caliber guard in Ky Bowman who could potentially help keep them within 24 points. Another important thing to remember is that Boston College beat Duke last year 89-84. Granted that game was a home game for the Eagles, but that’s still an impressive win. However, this Duke team isn’t like last years. Zion is one of the most tantalizing prospects in the nation, and RJ Barrett isn’t too far behind. This Duke team is also significantly better defensively than last year and has the home court advantage. All these things may prove too much for the Eagles to handle.

ESPN College Basketball Scores Boston College Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils
It’s really tempting to take Boston College against the spread in this one. The combination of a big spread and the ability of the Eagles to cover on the road is almost too much to pass up. However, I can’t bet against Duke in this one. They’ve dominated unranked teams at home so far this season. They just beat a pretty good St. John’s team by 31 when the line was set at 17. They also covered the 15 point spread against Notre Dame last week. Boston College is an interesting team against the spread and they did beat Duke last year, but this isn’t last year’s Duke team. Plus, they’re traveling to Cameron Indoor this time around. The superior talent of Duke and the home court advantage is most likely going to be enough to overwhelm the Eagles. Give me the Blue Devils at -23.5.
Pick: Duke -23.5
