NCAA Basketball Pick North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Florida State Seminoles

A big ACC basketball game with 8th ranked North Carolina taking on 16th ranked Florida State at Dean Smith Center. Both teams have been playing great basketball. North Carolina has won nine of their last 10 games and Florida State is on a nice streak, winning eight straight games.

Florida State Seminoles

16th ranked Florida State is coming into this matchup on an eight-game winning streak and will be looking to face North Carolina head on and make it nine straight. Florida State is 21-5 on the season and 9-4 against conference opponents. The Seminoles’ are led by Mfiondu Kabengele, Terance Mann and Trent Forrest. Kabengele is a sophomore forward leading the team in scoring with 13.4 PPG. Mann is a senior guard averaging 11.7 PPG and leading the team in rebounding with 6.5 per game. Forrest is a junior guard averaging a little over 9 PPG and leading the team in assist per game with 4.

The Seminoles’ best win came against then-ranked 16th Louisville Cardinals. Louisville took a nice lead heading into the half, but in the second half, Florida State came out with a ton of confidence and they made a run to tie the game and force OT. In overtime, Florida State was too much for Louisville and Florida State got the win in an exciting fashion 80-75. Florida State’s worst loss came against the Pittsburgh Panthers. It was a close first half and Pittsburgh only led by two heading into the second. It looked like it was going to be a tight ball game, but in the second half Florida State seemed to lose their footing and they were unable to make shots. The Florida State starters really struggled from the field and the bench wasn’t played enough to make an impact. Florida State shot 34 percent from the field and a horrid 9 percent from three. Those struggles ultimately caught up with them in the second half and it led to a Pittsburgh win, 75-62.

North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina is ranked 8th in the top 25 and is in a tie for 1st in the ACC. They are currently 21-5 on the season and 11-2 against conference opponents. The Tar Heels’ are led by Cameron Johnson, Coby White and Luke Maye. Johnson is a senior guard leading the team in scoring with 16.7 PPG and grabs an impressive 5.5 RPG. White is a freshman guard leading the team in assists per game with 4.2, while also being the second leading scorer on the team with 15.4 PPG. Maye is a senior forward averaging 9.8 RPG and pitching in a nice 15.1 PPG.

The Tar Heels’ best win was over then-ranked 1st Duke Blue Devils. I wouldn’t say it was the prettiest game and Zion Williamson’s injury did play a part in their win, but North Carolina was in desperate need of a win to show they are a top team. North Carolina took over the game after Williamson’s injury and led by 10 heading into the second half. RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish were forced to decide the game and they couldn’t do enough to get the win. North Carolina took the win 88-72. North Carolina’s top leading scorers took over the game and were pretty much the whole offense. Maye led the way with 30 points and 15 rebounds and Johnson also tallied up a 26 point performance. North Carolina’s only downfall was their 10 percent three-point field goal percentage, something they can not afford to repeat.

North Carolina’s worst loss came against the Louisville Cardinals, and when I say worst, I mean it. It was the Tar Heels’ worst loss under Roy Williams in 16 seasons as head coach. North Carolina came out the gates struggling to hit shots and it only got worse as the game progressed. The Tar Heels’ three leading scorers were non-existent on offense and because of that the team really struggled. They shot 34 percent from the field and 13 percent from three. Overall North Carolina couldn’t find the bucket and Louisville took advantage and got the win in a dominant fashion 83-62.

ESPN NCAA Basketball Scores Florida State Seminoles vs. North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina is the better offensive team scoring 87.5 points per game, while Florida State scores only 77.2. They are a better rebounding team grabbing 42.7 per game, while Florida State grabs 37.5. North Carolina has also proved they can beat the best of the best, while Florida State has yet to prove that. Florida State is a great defensive team, but I think North Carolina’s offense will prove to be too much for them to handle. Expect North Carolina to get the win and end the Seminoles win streak.

Pick: North Carolina -7
