In the finals of the Big 12 Tournament, we have the fifth seed, Iowa State, taking on the third seed, Kansas, with the winner becoming the Big 12 Tournament Champion and increasing their chances of getting a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. This is the third time that these two teams will be facing off. They split the season series 1-1 as Iowa State won the first matchup and Kansas took the second one. Kansas or Iowa State have won each of the last six Big 12 Tournament titles.

Iowa State Cyclones:

Winner of two straight games, Iowa State is 22-11 overall and finished 9-9 inside Big 12 play. Iowa State held off top-seeded Kansas State 63-59 in the semifinals on Friday and is 4-0 in Big 12 Championship Games. Senior guard, Marial Shayok, is averaging 18.7 points per game and has been dominant in the tournament, scoring 21 points versus Kansas State after notching 18 against Baylor. He also has come up big in both games against the Jayhawks, scoring 50 total points. Sophomore guard, Lindell Wigginton, is second on the team in points, averaging 13.3 points per game. Junior forward Michael Jacobson leads the team in rebounds with 6.0 rebounds per game while senior guard Nick Babb leads the team in assists, averaging 4.0 assists per game. Iowa State doesn’t get many shots at the rim, but with help from great spacing and strong play in transition, the team is amazingly efficient on those attempts, ranking first nationally.

Kansas Jayhawks:

Kansas is 25-8 overall and finished 12-6 in Big 12 play. In all games, Kansas ranks in the top three in the Big 12 in scoring offense, field goal percentage, and field goal percentage defense. Redshirt Junior forward, Dedric Lawson, lead the Jayhawks and the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game. Lawson is also averaging 10.4 rebounds per game and had twenty double-doubles this season. All-Big 12 Third Team honoree and freshman guard, Devon Datson is averaging 11.9 points per game and 3.6 assists per game.

In a battle to become Big 12 Tourney Champs, expect both Iowa State and Kansas to bring their A game. In their season series, Iowa State was able to force Kansas State to turn over the ball a lot as they were able to come out with the victory in the first match. In the second matchup, after a back and forth battle, Kansas was able to pull away and win 80 to 76. In this matchup, I expect this game to be close to the very end. I’m going to go with Kansas here and I believe you should pick the under here.

Pick: Under
