The Minnesota Golden Gophers travel to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Minnesota will attempt to squeeze out a road win to end its three-game losing streak, while Nebraska finds itself in deeper trouble, hoping to avoid its eighth straight loss.

Nebraska

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have lost control of their season following the loss of senior forward Isaac Copeland, Jr. The Cornhuskers have lost all four of their games without the star senior, who is second in the team in both field goal attempts and field goals made, and leads Nebraska by hitting 52.3% of his shots, all on top of a solid 14 points per game. Although James Palmer, Jr. continues to put up points, with 19 per game, the rest of the team has not been able to rise to the occasion and fill in the whole that Copeland left behind. Still, leading scorers Palmer and Glynn Watson, Jr. have not been efficient, as Watson has only made one three pointer in his last four games and went 0-10 in field goals against Maryland, while Palmer lagging behind in shooting efficiency as well. Nebraska also misses Copeland’s 6-foot-9 stature in the paint, as they now rely on Isiah Roby to win back the ball. Roby secures an impressive 7 rebounds per game, but this alone does not make up for all the missed shots this team has taken. Against Maryland last week, the Cornhuskers only hit 21.1% of their field goal attempts. They will need to double that if they want to earn their first win since January 14th.

Minnesota

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are in a bit of a rut the past few games, losing three in a row. However, all three of these teams (Michigan State, Purdue, and Wisconsin) are respectable opponents, so the Golden Gophers have a much smaller hole to dig themselves out of compared to Nebraska. That being said, the Cornhuskers are no pushover at home, where they are averaging almost 75 points per game. Meanwhile, Minnesota only clocks in at 63 points per game on the road, possibly explaining why such a troubled Nebraska team is favored in this game. Still, there are still plenty of reasons to get behind Minnesota in this game. Amir Coffey, Jordan Murphy, Daniel Oturu, and Gabe Kalscheur all average over 10 points per game, with Dupree McBrayer right behind at 9.5 points and Coffey leading the pack at 15.3 points. This proves that Minnesota has more than one star they can rely on to put up some points, and also explains how Minnesota is shooting so well. Center Daniel Oturu leads this squad with a 57% field goal percentage. As long as Minnesota doesn’t turn the ball over as much as they did against Michigan State (16 times) and shoots over 40%, Minnesota should be able to come away with the win.

Considering how weak Minnesota has been on the road this year, this is the perfect opportunity for Nebraska to get their act together and win their first game in a month. Still, Nebraska has been abysmal shooting since losing Copeland, Jr. and Minnesota has put up respectable numbers shooting and at least kept it close in all of their games recently excluding the blowout to a ranked Michigan State team a few days ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nebraska pulls it together tonight, as it really can’t get any worse shooting for Watson, Jr. and company, but given the 4 points I like Minnesota to hit the spread on the road.

Pick: Minnesota +4
