ESPN NCAA Basketball Picks USC Trojans vs Stanford Cardinal

USC: The Trojans enter this game 13-11, losing 3 of their last 4 games against Washington, Utah and Colorado with a win over Washington State in that stretch. In their most recent loss, a close game against Colorado, Bennie Boatwright was their leading scorer with 24 points (8-15 FG). Their only other player in double figures was Shaqquan Aaron, with 13 points. After being tied 65 all with 1:49 to play, the Trojans had two big mental breakdowns, and didn’t score for the rest of the match. The Trojans have now dropped to fifth place in the Pac-12, losing multiple games after going unbeaten at home in Pac-12 play. Although the loss, opposing players were praising Boatwright’s effort, who also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists, calling him a really “tough matchup”. USC has managed to eclipse 70 points just once over their last five games, which is weird because they do have a handful of decent scorers on the roster, including prospect Kevin Porter Jr. who has been coming off the bench since his return to the team. USC was also heavily out-rebounded in the game against Colorado, which in all of their losses, has been a big problem. For USC to win this game, they need to get on the glass, and put up some big numbers on the scoreboard, especially on the road.

Stanford: The Cardinal come into this game with a 12-11 record, and after winning 3 straight against Colorado, California and Oregon State, got blown out against the Oregon Ducks. Stanford scored just 46 points for the game, with Bryce Wills as the team’s top scorer on 13 points and three rebounds, and Kezie Okpala adding 10 points. The Cardinal had just 3 assists on the game, as their offense was completely shut down to start the game, mostly due to Oregon’s man in the mask, Kenny Wooten, who at a time had more blocks than the Cardinal had field goals. The Cardinal were also without sophomore point guard Daejon Davis, who was injured Thursday night in a head-to-head collision against Oregon State. Stanford was really missing Davis and his 12.6 points per game. However, Stanford will have home court advantage in their upcoming game with USC, and Davis is still questionable.

FREE NCAAB Prediction Stanford Cardinal vs. USC Trojans

The middle of the Pac-12 is very tight right now, so I expect this to be a good game especially with both teams coming off losses.  USC does not play well when they do not rebound. USC can win if the rebound, and get some of their scorers going. Stanford needs to get their offense clicking again after their big loss. Even with Daejon Davis still questionable, Stanford is still a good home team. The Trojans and Cardinal have already faced off once this season, with USC coming out with a 77-66 win on their home floor, but because of the Trojans terrible road record, I have the Cardinal winning this one.

Pick: Stanford (-1.5) Over/Under: 146
