The Crimson Tide of Alabama is heading to Thompson-Boling Arena this Saturday for a Southeastern Conference match up with the #3 ranked Tennessee Volunteers.
Could the Tennessee basketball program be in a better position than it is in right now? Rick Barnes has his Vols playing near perfection. They sit at 15-1 overall on the year and 4-0 in Southeastern Conference play. It’s starting to look like the orange and white will just coast through the SEC and earn another conference title. The Volunteers are playing so well that it seems as if their toughest opponent may be themselves. All five players on the floor for the Volunteers are easily capable of scoring 20 plus points any given night and this has made it nearly impossible to guard them. However, there are two players that have been consistently playing at an extremely high level game after game. Senior 6’6” guard Admiral Schofield is averaging 17.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assist per game. Schofield is joined by his partner in crime Grant Williams, a 6’7” junior forward, who is averaging 18.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assist per game. These two players together are a college basketball match made in heaven, if you’re a Tennessee fan of course. If you’re a fan of any other basketball program, these two might just be your biggest nightmare. There’s not be a team in the country that can match the Vols when the two of them are on the floor together. The Crimson Tide better look out because these Tennessee Vols are as real as it gets.
Alabama started Southeastern Conference play with a huge win over Kentucky at home and then went on to lose two straight. They come into this game after getting back into the win column with a road win at Missouri. Avery Johnson’s Tide has looked very good at times but can’t seem to find the consistency to be a true contender in the SEC. Alabama had a tough task trying to replace Collin Sexton, but it seems as if Johnson has found that replacement with Kira Lewis Jr. The 6’3” freshman leads the Crimson Tide in scoring with 14 points per game. Alabama’s guards John Petty and Tevin Mack also offer scoring ability for the Crimson Tide. As I mentioned, the main focus for Alabama is to find some sort of consistency. The Tide ranks 59th in the country in efficiency, while Tennessee ranks 5th. If the Tide wants a shot at knocking off the Volunteers at home, they need to be extremely efficient.

There is not a team in the country that is playing as well as Tennessee right now. The Volunteers are undefeated at home this year and are on an 18 game win streak in Thompson-Boling Arena that dates back to last season. I don’t see them losing anytime soon, and especially not on their own floor. I’ve got the Vols to cover on Rocky Top!
