The Badgers look to secure their share of the Big 10 title today with a win in South Bend. Wisconsin is currently in a three-way tie with Michigan State and Maryland for first place in the conference. They are currently on a seven-game winning streak as Micah Potter has been playing out of this world. In the first meeting between the teams, Wisconsin absolutely routed Indiana 84-64. Micah Potter was a bench player at the time, so any impact he has on the game is a bonus for the Badgers. Indiana has had trouble scoring in their last three games going 1-2 in that span.
The Hoosiers aren't in the right form right now as they haven't been able to find their footing on offense. Over the last three games, the Hoosiers are shooting just 38.33% from the field averaging 62.33 points per game. They just avoided a loss against Minnesota, who ironically only scored 10 points in the last five minutes costing them the game. Trayce Jackson-Davis led the team in scoring with 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting.
Archie Miller needs to get his crew going if they want any shot at advancing in the NCAA tournament. Indiana is averaging 71.37 points per contest while shooting 44.50% from the floor. At home, it gets much better as the Hoosiers are scoring 77.26 points per game and shooting 47.40% from the field. Trayce Jackson-Davis has been the bright spot on offense and has scored a combined 30 points in his last two games. The freshman forward has exceeded 20 points six times and has recorded an average of 13.9 PPG and 8.1 RPG.
Defensively, the Hoosiers have been good for the year. They rank 114th in the nation of defense surrendering 67.03 points per meeting. Opponents are shooting 42.17% from the floor and 32.20% from beyond the arc when facing the Hoosiers. There are nights where Indiana is locked down defensively and their others where teams can't seem to miss. Trayce Jackson-Davis is 8th in conference in blocks with 1.83 per game.
Surprisingly, the hottest team right now in the Big 10 isn't Michigan State or Maryland it's Wisconsin. The Badgers are on a seven-game heater right now and look to cap off their season with claiming a share of the Big 10 title. With the loss of Ethan Happ in this last year most people (including me) thought the Badgers would be at the bottom of the barrel, but look at them now. They are coming off a win against last-place Northwestern 63-48. Nate Reuvers led the team in scoring with 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting.
On offense, the Badgers are near the bottom of college basketball. They are averaging 67.40 points per contest, ranking them 281st in the country. On the road, it has not been great averaging just 60.77 points per game. If the Badgers had one Achille's heel it would be finding scoring. Nate Reuvers leads the squad in scoring with 12.9 PPG.
Greg Gard's troop is the best in the Big 10 on defense surrendering an average of 62.37 points per meeting. Opponents are shooting 41.27% from the field and 32.91% from the three-point range when facing the Badgers. They rank 19th in the country defensively according to the KenPom rankings. Nate Reuvers is 6th in the conference in blocks with 1.87 per game.
