The Bowl season is finally here and this matchup is the third game to kick off these great championship games. The Arizona State Sun Devils had a magical season. They started the year by getting a huge, upset win against Michigan State, that put the Devils in the rankings for a bit. They want on to compete their tails off and finish second in the PAC-12 South. Their great efforts and competitive spirit this season has earned them a spot in this Las Vegas Bowl. Now the Fresno State Bulldogs have had another great season and shown their bite in every game. They finished first in the Mountain West Division and first in the Mountain West Conference overall. They have had every type of win this season and they will be looking to continue to roll the dice in Vegas. Saturday’s quarterbacks are Manny Wilkins vs Marcus McMaryion.
The Arizona State Sun Devils are probably one of the toughest 7-5 teams around. The past few seasons, Arizona State has been an average to below average team in the PAC-12. Then coach Herm Edwards comes on and makes this team into a contender and gives them a bright spot for next season. This teams five losses this year were all by a touchdown or less and showed that they have been in each game. They had three blowout wins and some close, hard fought games as well. Above all, the Sun Devils learned about that no quit mentality and it showed in their last game of the regular season, when they beat their rival the Arizona Wildcats 41-40. The Sun Devils were on the road and down 40-21, going into the fourth quarter. They were able to storm back with 20 points and get the big win. Eno Benjamin had a great game, with 21 carries, for 80 yards total, and three rushing touchdowns. Brandon Aiyuk made the scoring easy with his five catches, for a total of 106 yards, and one touchdown catch. The Sun Devils give up the points, but they can get them back quick too. Arizona State will give it their all in this game and will try to win another close one.
The Fresno State Bulldogs have had another amazing season. Most of their wins came in the blowout fashion and the defense has been a brick wall at times. Even though the Bulldogs had a little easier schedule than the Sun Devils, this team showed at times, how strong the fight in the dog can be. This season, the Bulldogs showed their toughness against the #25 Boise State Broncos. In the first matchup, Fresno State had a tough loss to Boise State, when they gave up a touchdown lead in the fourth, and went on to lose the game. Now these teams met in the Mountain West Championship and had a spirited battle. Once again, the Bulldogs blew a 13-7, fourth quarter lead. Luckily, Fresno State was able to beat them in a field goal shootout type of overtime and win the Mountain West title. Mike Bell was a standout defenseman in this game, with nine tackles and half a sack. Marcus McMaryion took care of the ball by going 20/32, with 170 yards, and one touchdown pass. McMaryion even rushed six times for a total of 40 yards. Now the big statistic going into this game against the Sun Devils is that the Bulldogs defense hasn’t allowed more than 16 points in each of the last three games. This team even had five games this season, where they gave up under ten points or less. On Saturday, Fresno State will be doing the same on defense and trying to get that dog bowl win.

So, you have the Cinderella story Sun Devils taking on the mighty Bulldogs in Sin City. Who will take home the chips? The Sun Devils had that great win over Michigan State early in the season, but slowly went back to reality after that upset win. Arizona State did play quality football throughout the season, but just didnt have enough of a defense or clutch moments to get more wins. The Bulldogs have been playing solid football all season and already have a playoff game feel under their belt, with their win against Boise State. Fresno State has the better defense and quarterback, but the Sun Devils Eno Benjamin is the best rusher out there. Arizona State will put up a fight again in this game, but it won’t be enough. Bulldogs win 27-13.
