The Colorado Buffaloes are traveling down to Tuscon to take on their Pac-12 rivals. After starting the season 5-0, Colorado has dropped 3 in a row, including blowing a 31-3 lead against Oregon State last week. The Arizona Wildcats clawed back up to .500 in the Pac-12 upsetting the Oregon Ducks last week. Both teams have bowl aspirations and this week’s match up is pivotal for both teams.
Arizona’s win against Oregon was their first win against a ranked team this year, after falling to Houston and Utah earlier in the season. Their defense shone throughout the game, holding the Ducks to just 15 points and 270 yards. RB J.J. Taylor was the star on the offensive end, racking up 212 rushing yards and a pair of scores. This was his best game of the year, as the sophomore has been averaging 114 YPG on the year so far. Khalil Tate has stayed more in the pocket this year, throwing 14 TDs to just 5 INTs on 200 YPG. They both will need to spearhead the Wildcats offense this upcoming weekend, as it may be hard for the defense to put out two stellar performances in back to back weeks. The Wildcats’ defense has been giving up 27.4 PPG on 421 yards
If there is one team that desperately needs a win at the moment, it is Colorado. The Buffaloes had their eyes set on Pac-12 South title contention but their recent slide has them looking up from the bottom. The team has either sputtered offensively or just straight up collapsed like their game against Oregon State last week. The offense put up 536 yards in the contest but couldn’t put any points on the board late. K.D. Nixon and Laviska Shenault Jr. have been the Buffaloes stalwarts offensively, being a big part of the 262 passing yards that the Buffaloes put out every week. Colorado is blessed to have a solid defense, who are giving up just under 24 points on the year and less than 150 on the ground. It won’t just be their defense they’ll need to get them an elusive win though.
