The 7-3 Boston College Eagles head down south for a ACC conference showdown with the 4-6 Florida State Seminoles.

Boston College comes into this matchup fresh off the heels of a thorough beating at the hands of Clemson. However, prior to the Clemson game, BC had strung together 3 quality conference wins over Louisville, Miami, and Virginia Tech. The Eagles have sneakily had a very strong season under 6th year coach Steve Addazio and look primed to reach their highest win total in over a decade. For BC, the ability to run the football on Florida State’s 38th ranked run defense will be the key to picking up a big road win. Although Florida State has been torched in the passing game this year, they have been surprisingly decent against the run. BC loves to run the football (206.9 rypg) and they will without a doubt try to establish this early through leading rusher AJ Dillon. Boston College is far from the most talented roster in the ACC, but they are a well coached team that keeps finding a way to grind out victories.

The 2018 season has not been kind to the Florida State Seminoles. Sitting at 4-6 with 3 straight losses and bowl eligibility on the line, almost nobody saw things going this poorly in Tallahassee. Make no mistake, this is without a doubt a talented roster that has at times looked the part of a legitimate contender in the ACC. But consistency has been the achilles heel of this Florida State team and they really haven’t put together 4 quality quarters of football against any respectable team. The defense has been troublesome, allowing 31.6 points per game while surrendering 403.8 total yards per game. The offense is really what has struggled this season, scoring a paltry 22.7 ppg (good for 111th in the FBS). Their ability to stop the potent Boston College rushing attack in particular will be a big test for this Florida State team come Saturday. If you can shut down the BC rushing attack, you force the Eagles away from their gameplan and get your (albeit mediocre) offense more shots at the end zone.

As mentioned above, the key battle in this game is going to be the AJ Dillon and the Boston College rushing attack against the Seminole defensive front. Boston College is a team that loves to pound the football and control the clock and beat you down. If Florida State can make key stops up front early on, they can put themselves in a position to force the Eagles to throw the ball and play from behind (something they are not nearly as good at). That said, I think this Seminole team has checked out for the season after consecutive losses to Clemson, NC State, and Notre Dame. Even if the Seminoles do make things tough on the Eagles rushing attack, they simply don’t possess enough offensive firepower to really capitalize on it. Expect AJ Dillon to get out and run the ball early for the Eagles as they comfortably win on the road in Tallahassee.
