FREE NCAA Football Pick: ACC 2019 Preview
NCAA Football 2019, Atlantic Coast Conference
Odds: Clemson (-600), Miami (+850), Virginia (+3,000), Virginia Tech (+3,000) Florida State (+3,500)
The ACC is entering the 2019 season on an all time high. In a college football climate dominated by the SEC and blue bloods, the ACC proved itself worthy of its power five title, sending 11 of its 13 teams to Bowl Games and winning 7 of them – the highest tally in football last season.
But the highest high, of course, came from the ACC’s resident blue blood: Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers, who shocked Alabama (and the rest of the country) on the largest stage in a forebodingly dominant display of football. And although the ACC has shown vast improvement from the bottom of the conference, it is obvious that this conference is Clemson’s to lose, and any bets made on the ACC should not be done before taking the Tigers into account.
The smart move: Clemson (-600)
Yes, I know, you don’t need to come to sports betting advice websites just to hear, “bet on the overwhelming favorite.” But when that overwhelming favorite beats Nick Saban by 28 in the National Title Game with a true freshman under center, it’s an easy take. Trevor Lawrence is looking lime an all-time great quarterback, and nearly the entire secondary is returning. Their biggest loss will be at defensive line, where they lost all four starters, but they will be replaced with four blue-chip freshmen. Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins are returning at receiver, and Etienne will remain in the backfield. This is a team built for long-term dominance, and I wouldn’t be doing my job if I advised you to bet against them.
The Dark Horse: Florida State (+3,500)
But if you’re itching for an underdog, then Florida State and their aura of unpredictability makes them the best bet to dethrone Swinney’s behemoths. FSU, who are coming off a terrible 5-7 season in coach Willie Taggart’s first season, are still recovering from previous coach Jimbo Fisher, who gutted the team before jumping ship to Texas A&M. But this looks to be a much more promising year for taggart, who has made a career from revitalizing sluggish offensive teams. As long as he can get a consistent and healthy offense – particularly at quarterback and the shockingly shallow tackle position – he should be able to turn this Florida State team back to their former glory.
But all roads to the ACC Title go through Clemson, and the ‘Noles will be facing off against them in Death Valley on October 12th, when both teams are coming off a bye. Though Miami seems to be the better team on paper, Taggart, James Blackman, and the Seminoles have unpredictability on their side – and if you’re going to beat Clemson, you’re going to need a lot of it.

Yes, we all love Cinderella stories. And yes, anything can happen in college football. But betting on miracles is a surefire way to lose money when gambling on sports. The Clemson Tigers are the most complete team in college football, and they are showing no signs of slowing down following their National Title victory. Their most difficult match-ups – Texas A&M and Florida State – will both be played in front of their home crowd, and they have filled their gaps at defensive and offensive line with blue-chip young stars. Injuries and upsets are always plentiful in college football, but with the information we have right now, nobody should be betting against the Clemson Tigers and the dynasty that they are unraveling before our eyes.
