The Alabama Crimson Tide come into this season with redemption on their mind. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is back after leading the nation with 43 passing touchdowns as a sophomore, and he enters this year again as a Heisman favorite and an NFL Draft hopeful. Tagovailoa will get his star-power of a receiving core back which includes last year’s Fred Biletnikoff Award winner in Jerry Jeudy. Henry Ruggs III and DeVonta Smith also return for the Crimson Tide, as the group of three posted 201 catches for 3,597 yards and 38 touchdowns altogether.

Plenty of new faces have arrived on this Crimson Tide roster as well as the coaching staff. With six new assistants hired, they will focus on getting this young Alabama team ready for the upcoming season. They will have two incoming freshman playing on a defense that will learn as they go with linebackers Christian Harris and Shane Lee getting the start after some injuries to the incumbent starters.

“We’ve got to work with them on it,” Tide head coach Nick Saban said Wednesday of his freshmen commanding the defense. “They’ve been calling the defenses (at practice). They’ve been getting the signals with the twos, now they’re going to have to move up and be able to get the communication with the ones.”

After that disappointing loss to the Clemson Tigers in last year’s National Championship, Alabama enters this season ranked #2 in the preseason poll. They will look to improve their Chick-Fil-A kickoff game record to 6-0 under Nick Saban.

The Duke Blue Devils will have a new signal-caller under center this year for coach David Cutcliffe. With Daniel Jones departing for the NFL Draft, senior Quentin Harris steps up to the plate. Harris was a backup throughout the entirety of his career so far and sat behind Jones for the past few years. Harris has the support from the coaches and will have to try and take advantage of a young defense with some inexperience.

Cutcliffe has led the Blue Devils to six bowl games in the last seven years, and firmly believes the Blue Devils are worthy of this kind of national attention and game magnitude.

“I felt like our program had earned this opportunity,” Cutcliffe states. “How do you walk away from this opportunity? I still feel great about this decision, no question. Challenging, yes. But how do you grow? This is what you are supposed to do.”

Duke will also benefit from returning four starters on defense and a solid secondary that helped the Blue Devils rank in the top 40 nationally in pass defense. But will it be enough against what could possibly be the best receiving core in the country?
