Two undefeated teams will be clashing head-to-head on Friday when the Duke Blue Devils will be hosting the Miami Hurricanes.
Although they are primarily known for their basketball, the Duke football team has had a tremendous start to the season. Their latest win was their toughest contest yet, with a 27-17 win against North Carolina. In that win, quarterback Daniel Joseph threw 18 completions out of 34 attempts for 202 yards and a touchdown. The rushing game was split primarily between Joseph, Shaun Wilson, and Brittain Brown. Although Wilson had the most carries (18) and a TD, Brittain Brown rushed for 90 yards on only 10 carries. Tight end Davis Koppenhaver caught the lone TD pass Joseph threw, but T.J. Rahming led the team with six receptions and 73 yards. Jeremy McDuffie led the team with ten total tackles, and Mike Ramsay added 1.5 sacks along with 2.5 tackles for losses. Bryon Fields Jr. also picked off UNC quarterback Chazz Surratt. Duke has won by at least ten in every game they have played so far this year.
The Miami Hurricanes are 2-0 so far this season and will be looking to keep the trend going against Duke. They are currently coming off a dominating 52-30 win against the Toledo Rockets. Malik Rosier had a solid day, throwing 27 of 36 for 333 yards with 3 touchdowns and a pick. However, the rushing game also contributed immensely with four touchdowns on the ground. Mark Walton led the team with 11 carries and 204 yards and a touchdown, but Travis Homer was able to punch in two touchdowns of his own on only eight carries. Malik Rosier added the other rushing touchdown. On the receiving end, Braxton Berrios was the leader with 105 yards receiving and a TD, but Christopher Herndon IV caught a team-high eight passes and had a score of his own. Although the defense gave up 30 points, they did have some key players that performed well including Zach Quinn, who had a sack and 1.5 tackles for losses. Jordan Williams had the lone interception on the day for the U, and Ja’Waun Woodley had eight total tackles which led the team.

Both teams have shown that they have the ability to score and their strength is on the offensive side of the football. This indicates that this could be a heavily offensive game, with the point total reaching well above what is expected. In match-ups like these, it usually comes down to the final possession and who can score the most right at the very end. It wouldn’t be surprising if it led to the final possession, and therefore expect Duke to handle the odds in this one. Perhaps we could even see something similar to a repeat of 2015…
