College Football returns this Saturday with a bang as the Florida Gators take on the Miami Hurricanes in the Camping World Kickoff in Orlando. Head coach Dan Mullen and the Gators hope to take the next step after a 10-3 season and challenge Georgia for the SEC East crown. Florida looks to get off to a hot start against in-state rival Miami in Mullen's second year as head coach. The Hurricanes promoted Manny Diaz to head coach after three seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach this offseason. Before returning to his hometown of Miami, Diaz served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach under Mullen at Mississippi State in 2010 and 2015. Florida Wins If...

Feleipe Franks brings his A game. The Florida signal-caller led the Gators to four consecutive victories to end the 2018 season, including a come from behind 35-31 victory against South Carolina and a 41-15 beatdown of Michigan in the Peach Bowl. He quietly took his game into a new gear during the last four games of the year, and his willingness to run the football was a big part of that. He had 4 rushing TDs in those four games after totaling just 3 rushing TDs in his previous 21 games at quarterback. He will need to utilize his 6'6" 227 pound frame against the physical Hurricanes defense and take the load off talented RB Lamical Perine (6.2 yds/carry in 2018) who packs a punch at 5'11" 218 pounds. Miami allowed the fewest passing yards per game in the country last year with just 135.6 yards allowed per game.

Miami Wins If...

Miami's freshmen step up. While the Miami interior O Line should be solid, the Hurricanes enter the season opener with a pair of freshmen tackles and a freshman quarterback leading the offense. Miami was embarrassed and overpowered at the line of scrimmage in their season opener a season ago against LSU, a 33-17 loss. A key matchup to watch when Miami is on offense will be between the freshmen tackles, LT Zion Nelson and RT John Campbell, and Florida's best edge rusher, Jabari Zuniga. Zuniga had 6.5 sacks last year and 11.0 tackles for loss.

If Miami wants to contend in the ACC this year and challenge the Gators in Week 1, they will need more consistent quarterback play than they had following their disappointing 7-6 season. The Hurricanes finished 12th in passing yards and 13th in passer rating among ACC teams in 2018. After highly touted Ohio State transfer Tate Martell landed in Miami, many in the media assumed he would win the starting job, but it was redshirt freshman Jarren Williams who won the three way battle for QB1. While he is the least experienced of the three, Williams is also the most highly ranked quarterback to sign with Miami since Kyle Wright in 2003. The No. 5 pro-style QB in the class of 2018 via 247Sports will rely WR Jeff Thomas and TE Brevin Jordan in the pass game. Thomas is a Pro Football Focus preseason all ACC 2nd team player this season. Jordan was the top TE recruit in the high school class of 2018 and is projected as a PFF 1st team all ACC this year. Look for the freshman signal-caller to find them in the passing game to take Gator defenders out of the box and give RB DeeJay Dallas (5.7 yards per carry last year) room to roam.
