The Boston College Eagles are flying high this season, but the Virginia Tech Hokies are hoping to play spoilers to the Eagles season at Lane Stadium this weekend.
It is an exciting time be in the Boston area! The Red Sox just win the world series, the Patriots are on fire, and the Eagles are soaring high right now. A big part of Boston College’s success has been their offense. The Eagles have had a lot of success running the ball so far this year and hop to continue that into this game. Right now, they have the twenty-fourth best average rushing yards per game. If they can get Anthony Brown on a roll that would be nice as well. Brown has not been the most standout quarterback but plays a big part in their offense.
The defensive side of the ball has had its up’s and down’s this year as well. Currently they are ranked fiftieth overall. They haven’t been good at defending either the run or pass but have been mediocre enough to win. This same defense is also allowing 24.5 points against them per game. The Boston College Eagles have had a good season so far and if they want to make a New Year’s Six Bowl, like they have their eyes on, they are going to need to step up on defense. I think the defense should get a good confidence boost playing this game.
The Hokies have had their share of up’s and down’s this year, but the offense has been pretty solid. While not having the best run game in the country, they have put up some impressive numbers on offense. Averaging just under 270 yards passing a game has been a big reason why they are 3-1 in conference play. Ryan Willis has played well this year and has just over 1,250 yards on the season. The Hokies are going to need to come out firing this game, but they are going to need to run the ball as well if they hope to win.
Virginia Tech is no stranger to high powered offenses. They have to play a relatively tough schedule that includes several ranked opponents. The big issue for them has been giving up too many points. Currently they allow 28 points a game. They aren’t doing their offense any favors with that. Currently they are ranked fifty-fifth in the nation for total defense. Similar to Boston College’s defense they aren’t particularly good at defending one attack over the other but are just mediocre at both. Defensively this game should be very interesting to say the least.

What a game for the middle of the day slot. I feel sorry for whoever watches the Alabama vs. LSU game, instead of this ACC showdown. I have a strong feeling that this game is quickly going to turn into an offensive shootout. Neither team has a strong defense that they can rely on, and that worries me about Boston College. I think Virginia Tech is a solid team, and definitely an opponent you don’t want to try to come back on. Virginia Tech is tough at home, but I like Boston College and think they get it done in a close shootout on the road.
