NCAA FOOTBALL PICKS #7 Auburn Tigers vs Mississippi State Bulldogs
Welcome to this Week 5, SEC Conference showdown between the Mississippi State Bulldogs vs #7 Auburn Tigers. The Bulldogs have been in some interesting games this season. They beat LA-Lafayette in Week 1 by ten points and then they blew out Southern Miss by 23. The Bulldogs had a good effort, seven point loss to #24 Kansas State and then beat Kentucky by 15 last week. In that Kentucky game, quarterback Garrett Shrader went 17 for 22, for 180 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. The Tigers have had some close wins, a blowout victory, and another solid win. They beat #13 Oregon by six points and last week, they beat #23 Texas A&M, by eight and on the road. Quarterback Bo Nix went 12 for 20, for 100 yards, and one touchdown. The Bulldogs are a tricky team to deal with sometimes and the Tigers will try to keep their solid play going.
The Bulldogs defense has been okay this season. Their passing defense has been a high point for them. Also, at times they have been able to do well against the rushing game. The offense has been slowly looking more crisp every week and finishing some good drives. Shrader is starting to run more and it is really helping this offense be more productive. This team doesn’t really get blown out and they don’t really over power teams either. This offense does well in those grind out games and then they get that late stop or score for the win. The Bulldogs stopping Auburn on critical drives will be key.
The Tigers have been an interesting team this season. They somehow found ways to win even when they take stupid penalties, struggle to get those big turnovers, and have an okay passing game. When all else fails, the defense is always there and Auburn has it. That line is holding up very well against the run. The defense has just enough of pressure on the quarterback and even though they can’t get quick turnovers, they sure can get stops when they need to. Also, their rushing game has led the way for them. JaTarvious Whitlow has led the team in rushing in all four games and will probably rush for over 100 yards again this week. Nix will have some key passes at the right time, but it will be all about the rushing game and defense for the Tigers to do well.

So, who will win this SEC showdown? The Tigers defense has been so good this season, that they haven’t had to deal with a shootout type of offensive game. They have been great at staying in control of games. Nix will need to pass more at times because the Tigers running game at times won’t be able to run all over the place. Auburn will shut down the Mississippi State running game and the Bulldogs will have a tough time beating the Tigers in a passing game battle. The Bulldogs are a team that likes to hang around as well, but will fall short in the end. Auburn wins 28-14
