ESPN NCAA Basketball Pick Wisconsin Badgers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

A Big Ten matchup this Saturday with 19th ranked Wisconsin taking on Penn State at Kohl Center. Wisconsin is coming into this matchup fresh off a devastating loss to Indiana, while Penn State is coming into the matchup on a three-game winning streak.

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin is 19-9 and ranked 19th  in the top 25. The Badgers are led by Ethan Happ, D’Mitrik Trice and Brad Davison. Ethan Happ, senior forward, is averaging a double-double with 17.9 PPG and 10.3 RPG. D’Mitrik Trice, sophomore guard, is averaging 12.5 PPG, 2.8 RPG and 2.6 APG. Brad Davison, sophomore guard, is averaging 11.2 PPG and 3.3 RPG. These three players are the leading scorers and the main focus of Wisconsin’s offensive game.

Wisconsin’s best win was against then-ranked 2nd Michigan Wolverines. Wisconsin and Michigan played a very even game in the first half, with Michigan leading by only two points. The second half was a bit different and Wisconsin took over the game and outscored Michigan by 12 in the second leading them to the win, 64-54. Happ played great scoring 26 points, grabbing 10 boards and dishing out 7 assists. Wisconsin’s worst loss came against the Michigan State Spartans. It was a very close game in the first and Michigan State only led by one point. In the second, Wisconsin hit a rough patch and was unable to keep up with Michigan State. Michigan State won 67-59. Happ was the driving force for Wisconsin and he did get a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds but the struggle of the rest of the team is what led to the Wisconsin loss.

Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State is 12-16 and 5-12 against conference opponents. The Nittany Lions are led by Lamar Stevens, Rasir Bolton and Josh Reaves. Stevens is a junior forward leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 19.9 PPG and 7.9 RPG. Bolton is a freshman guard and the second leading scorer with an average of 12.3 PPG. Reaves is a senior guard that averages 10 points and 4.5 rebounds. These three players are the offense for Penn State and the players that will control the ball the most.

Penn State’s best win was against then-ranked 17th Maryland Terrapins. Penn State came ready to play and their offense was clicking early on in the game and the scoring game in bunches. They also played tremendous defense that led to Maryland only scoring 20 points in the first. Penn State took a 22 point lead heading into the second. Maryland did play a better second half but the 22 point deficit they faced was just too much and Penn State won 78-61. Stevens had a great game scoring 24 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Penn State’s worst loss came against then-ranked 2nd  Michigan Wolverines. The first half was close with Michigan leading by only five. Penn State was forced to play catchup and they just weren’t able to match Michigan down the floor. Michigan took the win, 68-55. Penn State really struggled form three in this game as they shot only 7 percent.

ESPN NCAA Basketball Scores Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin is the better team in this matchup and they have proved that by their record and their ranking in the top 25. Penn State has been playing great basketball winning three straight and destroying a 17th ranked Maryland team. It really is hard to say who wins in this matchup. Ethan Happ will have to play a great game because Wisconsin relies heavily on his offensive game as well as his rebounding. When Happ struggles it is hard for Wisconsin to win. I think Wisconsin will take the win in this matchup. Penn State has some momentum coming into this game, but I don’t think it will be enough to win.

Pick: Wisconsin Badgers -7.5
