Week 4 of the college football season continues with the Boston College Eagles at home taking on the Temple Owls.

The Temple Owls are another team facing quarterback controversy entering the weekend. It’s becoming a trend in college football with upperclassmen quarterbacks struggling to keep their starting jobs as younger quarterbacks are coming into college more developed than ever. The news has been filled with controversy surrounding Alabama and most recently Clemson’s quarterback situation and now Temple joins the conversation. Graduate quarterback Frank Nutile (33/63, 401 yards, 4 touchdown, 4 interceptions) took the starting job last year from starting quarterback Logan Marchi and now is in danger of having the same thing happen to him. Sophomore Anthony Russo filled in for Nutile the last couple weeks and has produced two wins, 364 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. The future is likely with Russo but Nutile is the more solid option now. This may be a situation where Nutile comes back too early from injury in fear of losing his starting spot and hurts himself and the team in the long run. Temple is on a 2 game win streak and looks to keep momentum by upsetting Boston College.

Boston College will look to rebound after a disappointing loss to Purdue last week. The win against BC was the Boilermakers first of the year. Starting quarterback Anthony Brown had a disaster of a game going 13/27 for 96 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. That comes as a surprise to Boston College fans as Brown had been playing great, compiling 626 yards, 9 touchdowns and 0 picks prior to the start against Purdue. Senior defensive end Wyatt Ray has had a great start to his year as well. He is leading the nation in sacks with 5.5, 4 of which came against Wake Forest. In the loss to Purdue he was less active only getting 2 tackles and .5 sacks. The Eagles also have the 7th highest rusher in AJ Dillon who in 78 attempts has picked up 491 yards and 4 touchdowns. Being that Temple is head coach Steve Addazio’s former team, it is likely that the Eagles are going to come into the game fired up and looking to return to form.

Steve Addazio does not strike me as the type to let his team commit the same mistakes week to week. Temple is his former employer and the way he talks about it, he has fond memories…of a bunch of people that have passed. I think Addazio has his team ready to crush Temple and get back on track. What better way to show your current team you are serious than running up the score against a former team? I’m taking Boston College.
