Texas is coming off a heartbreaking 45-38 loss to LSU in Austin. Meanwhile, Rice is searching for their first victory of the young season and is hoping to improve on a 2-11 record in 2018. The Owls struggled to stop Wake Forest in a 41-21 loss in their home opener last week. Texas tumbled down to 12th place in the rankings following their loss last week. Texas has never lost to a Conference USA opponent as they are 28-0 against them in program history. The Longhorns also won the last matchup between these programs 42-28 win in September 2015.
Texas looks to keep up dominance against Rice
Texas is 10-0 SU in their last 10 games against Rice. The Longhorns are 72-21-1 against Rice in their 94 meetings between these teams. Texas has been great on offense led by Sam Elhinger in his junior year. Elhinger is completing 69.4% of his passes for 677 yards and has thrown eight touchdowns. The Longhorns struggled with their offensive line allowing five sacks and seven tackles for loss against LSU. Keantay Ingram has led the way on the ground this year with 21 rush attempts resulting in 107 yards. The Longhorns offense has been pass-heavy this year with 34 first downs coming by way of passing while only 15 first downs were the result of the ground game.
