NCAA Basketball Picks Iowa Hawkeyes vs Indiana Hoosiers

Both teams are coming off huge upset victories against a couple of top 10 teams. One team looks to remain hot while the other hopes it wasn’t a fluke. Iowa knocked off No. 5 Michigan with an easy 74-59 victory last Friday. Indiana took No.6 Michigan State to the brink with a startling 79-74 OT victory. This will be the first of two match-ups these Big Ten foes will have this season.

Indiana Hoosiers

Before their upset victory over Michigan State, Indiana was suffering from a seven-game losing streak. Romeo Lanford got the offense started in that overtime victory with a three-pointer and the Hoosiers didn’t look back. He is the leading scorer in the conference for all freshman with 17.4 ppg. He has averaged 19.5 ppg in his last two contests a good reason why he has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the week four times this season. Even though their young player did well doesn’t mean the team has over all. The Hoosiers have shot only 36.5 percent in their past five games. Against MSU, Indiana made 10 of 20 from behind the arc but only 39 percent from the field overall. Justin Smith had his best game if the season with his third career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. A key factor in this game came down to the free throws considering MSU had a rough night with only 8 of 22 going in and 6 of 18 attempts in regulation. Indiana was 13 for 19 for the game.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Like Indiana, The Hawkeyes are coming off a much needed win and against a powerhouse Michigan team at that. This wasn’t a win that came to the end either. Iowa pretty much sealed this game by halftime.  A 21-2 run in the first half helped the Hawkeyes to a 42-29 halftime lead that they never looked back from. Luke Garza lead the team with 19 points and came into the game averaging 20 ppg in his previous four. Iowa out shot Michigan 45 percent to 32 percent and shot 43 percent from deep. Michigan struggled with the three all night long only making 8 of 33. Iowa dominated in rebounds with 48 to the Wolverines 36. Tyler Cook is the leading scorer for Iowa with 16 ppg followed by Garza with 15. The Hawkeyes average 82 ppg which is good for 27th best in the nation. Only three times this season has Iowa scored less than 70 in a game. You can count on Iowa scoring a ton and they have to, because they also give up 73 points per game.
