The historic rivalry between USC and Notre Dame continues on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in South Bend, Indiana. This will be the 91st meeting between the two teams. In last year’s meeting, the Irish won that game on the road by a score of 24-17.
The Trojans have lost two of their last three games. On the other hand, Notre Dame has won two straight games on the road. Will the Fighting Irish continue to protect their home turf? Or can the Trojans pull off an upset against their rival?
Trojans Looking For First Road Win
The USC Torjans have been hit hard by the injury bug early in the season. Their biggest loss is their star QB JT Daniels. their biggest loss being QB JT Daniels. Backup QB Kedon Slovis has taken over but he got knocked early in the Utah game and Washington Huskies game on the road two weeks prior. Slovis has passed for 732 yards with five touchdowns so far, but he also has four interceptions.
He is listed as probable for this one and the Trojans will need a big game from him here, but it will be a challenge against the Irish great secondary. Notre Dame ranks 17th in the nation against the Pass, allowing just 183.2 yards per game so far.
Safety Talanoa Hufanga and cornerback Olaijah Griffin are also expected back from injuries. Hufanga, who suffered a concussion in their victory over Utah, has been cleared. Griffin left the same game due to back spasms and is considered a close call.
Fighting Irish Looking For Third Straight Home Victory
Notre Dame comes into Saturday game with a 52-0 rout victory against Bowling Green at home. Notre Dame had 35 points at the half and QB Ian Book had five TD passes in the game. Book threw for 261 yards on 16/20 passing and has now completed 65.5% of his passes for 1254 yards with 13 TDs and just two INTs.
The running game for the Irish has been spectacular as the unit has rushed for 205.5 yards per game over their last two games The Trojans are weak against the run, which gives Notre Dame an advantage to run all over the defense.
This game is a very important game to win for Notre Dame to make their case as playoff contenders.
Even though USC is not the strongest team in college football, their name still holds a lot of value. So for sure if they pull an upset against Notre Dame, this will look bad on the Irish part.
