After beating Utah last week, the Trojans are looking to beat the Washington Huskies on the road.
USC beat Utah 30-23 after a 30-27 loss to BYU in Week 3. The overtime loss placed the Trojans at 2-1, as they beat Fresno State and Stanford in previous weeks. This week, they have a Pac-12 team in the Washington Huskies.
The Trojans are dealing with their share of injuries, as three of their starters will be out for today’s game. Safety Talanoa Hufanga, cornerback Olaijah Griffin and quarterback Kedon Slovis will all be out for this game, as they deal with various injuries. Hufanga is dealing with a shoulder sprain and is also going through concussion protocol. Griffin is dealing with back spasms, and Slovis remains in concussion protocol. These injuries will not only impact their defense (in the case of Hufanga and Griffin) but potentially their overall performance this game.
In response to their injuries, the Trojans have other options to turn to as this game approaches. They will use defensive back Chase Williams in Hufanga’s place, Isaac Taylor-Stuart at cornerback in Griffin’s place, and Matt Fink at quarterback.
Fink threw for 351 yards against Utah and had 21 completions. If he can have a solid performance against the Huskies, USC would benefit tremendously.
Last week, the Huskies beat the BYU Cougars in a blowout. They won the game 45-19.
Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason had a solid performance with 24 completions, 290 yards passing and three touchdowns. The Huskies blew out a team that (ironically) gave the Trojans their first loss. The Cougars beat the Trojans in overtime and moved them to a 2-1 record. The Huskies can use that as motivation.
The Huskies are a skilled offensive team as they not only have excellent passing abilities, but they can also run the ball. They average almost 200 yards on the ground per game with players such as Sean McGrew and Richard Newton. The Trojans are already missing two key defensive players in Hufanga and Williams, so the Huskies can execute their offense and take advantage of the Trojans’ holes in their defense.

This game between the two Pac-12 teams (USC being South and Washington being North) should be a good one. Both teams have an even overall record and are capable off pulling off a win.
The Trojans lacking three starters could hurt their performance in this game, and if Washington is smart, they’ll take advantage of this. While Fink did well for USC against Utah, it is hard to see him having another performance like that one. But anything is possible. While the Trojans have won five of their last six games in Washington, there is a good chance the Huskies change that. The Huskies should win in what could be a close game.
