NCAA FOOTBALL PICKS #5 Oklahoma Sooners vs West Virginia Mountaineers
Welcome to this Week 8, Big 12 Conference showdown between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the #5 Oklahoma Sooners. The Mountaineers have had a decent season. They won three of their first four games and have dropped the last two games. Two of their three losses were against ranked teams and one of those games was a blowout loss. Last week, they lost to Iowa State 38-14. West Virginia was tied at 14 at the half and then they were outscored 24-0 in the second half. Quarterback Jack Allison went 18 for 24, for 140 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Sooners are having another awesome season. Once again they are hovering around that top five spot and hopefully getting a spot in the college football playoff. Oklahoma has had double digit wins in every game this season except last week, where they beat #15 Texas, on the road, 34-27. Quarterback Jalen Hurts went 16 for 28, for 235 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. The Sooners have won by 33 plus three times this season and they will look to give the Mountaineers more trouble against a ranked team.
The Mountaineers have a decent pass rush and defensive unit that get enough pressure on the Oklahoma offense. West Virginia will need to make Hurts move around just enough, so they can make things a little harder for him. Sure West Virginia is giving up a lot of yards this season, but they haven’t been getting destroyed that much. This team only lost by 11 to Texas, a team that Oklahoma just beat only by seven points. The Mountaineers are capable of hanging around. The problem is the West Virginia offense. They can’t seem to get things going and continue to pile up the turnovers. They hardly have a running game and no standout receivers. Maybe they will get some good drives for once, but it will mostly be about the defense creating offensive chances, if any, for the Mountaineers.
The Sooners Hurts is great at moving around just enough to create some plays. He is also good at getting the ball out quickly. The Oklahoma O line should have fun not feeling the pressure and working the ball up the field easily. On defense, the pass rush has really found their game and they will try to have another game with a bunch of sacks and tackles for a loss. This week, Hurts can work on dumb mistakes in the end zone and keeping that efficiency solid. Nice decision making will be key if they want to enhance their playoff bid. Also, the defense will try to shut things down more this week. They are at home and could get back to giving up two touchdowns or less.
NCAA Football Scores West Virginia Mountaineers vs #5 Oklahoma Sooners
So, who will win this Big 12 Conference showdown? The Mountaineers are banged up with injuries and the offense has been too inconsistent to have a fighting chance. Despite all this, the team has battled hard. Sure they have been blowout a few times, but that Texas effort, a few weeks ago, really stands out. The Sooners will try to blow this game up in the first half and they probably will. West Virginia defense will sometimes slow the Sooners down and that will be their only success on the day. The Mountaineers may be able to get a few touchdowns and field goals in the second half, as they play against some Oklahoma backups. The Sooners will have an easy win, but it won’t be completely one sided. Oklahoma stacks up the most yards in the nation, but their defense could do a bit better. Sooners win 42-16, but don’t cover the spread.
