Free ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Picks Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka

Pakistan’s remarkable win over England now sees them face Asian rivals Sri Lanka on Friday at the Bristol County Ground. Sri Lanka’s campaign started of poorly against New Zealand but the Lankan’s superb comeback in their second match against Afghanistan would make a huge difference to their confidence levels. Pakistan were done and dusted in their opening match taking on West Indies and were not expected to challenge England, but that was not the case when the match started, batting first Pakistan scored a total of 348 run losing 8 wickets to finish of their innings and the bowlers then did the job to get them their first win of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Sri Lanka, on the other end, started of well with the bat, but stumbled after losing the top three managing to score only 201 in 36.5 overs, the match was then affected by rain – Afghanistan needed just 187 to win in 41 overs; big hitter Hazratullah lashed out in the opening overs but eventually lost his wicket to Pradeep who was the star of the match (9-1-31-4), Najibullah looked like getting his team over the line but was involved in a run out scoring 43 runs and the veteran Malinga finished it off with his trademark Yorker to register Sri Lanka’s victory.

Sarfaraz Khan would expect his bowlers to dominate when they face Sri Lanka on Friday at Bristol. Wahab Riaz has been in top notch form, the left arm speedster is playing in his third World Cup and in all the World Cups he has played, his created memories that fans will never forget; 2011 World Cup vs. India – inswinging yorker to dismiss to Yuvraj Singh, 2015 World Cup vs. Australia – dangerous spell against Watson, 2019 World Cup – picking three crucial wickets to deny the host. Hafeez is back in form and his experience will be needed in the middle order once again. Mickey Arthur will be hoping that Shoaib Malik gets some runs under his belt and this would be the perfect opportunity. Pakistan have got the bowlers to win them the matches but their batting doesn’t look settled yet and Sri Lankan seamer will look to exploit their weakness if the conditions favor them.

The Lankan lions will need their batting to fire if there are progress into the semi finals of the tournament. Angelo Mathews hasn’t got runs in the first 2 games but he’ll be looking to the take responsibility being a senior player in the side. Nuwan Pradeep’s heroics in the previous game will increase his confidence in the abilities that he has. Kusal Mendis is another batsman important batsman for Lanka and if he can find some runs their batting will look settled. Now that Angelo Mathew doesn’t bowl much it’s Thisara Perera’s job to chip in with 1-2 wickets in the middle order and his batting will always be more than handy at the back of an innings. Sri Lanka have the talent to beat any side in the tournament they just need to execute well on the pitch and they’ll win more often than not.
