Cherry Picking Fridays-12/15/17 NBA Pick, Odds, and Prediction

San Antonio Spurs (19-9) at Houston Rockets (22-4)

NBA Basketball: Friday, December 15, 2017 at 9:30 pm (Toyota Center)

The Line: Houston Rockets -8 Over/Under: 212

The Houston Rockets will be trying to extend their winning streak to 12 games when they host the San Antonio Spurs at the Toyota Center for tonights.  The Houston Rockets are making a case as the best team in the league right now, as they’re outscoring teams by 12 points in their last five games and 10 points at home this season overall. The game also pits Houston’s No. 2-ranked offense, averaging 115 PPG. On the flip side, the Rockets will be playing against the Spurs defense that ranks No. 1 at 97.54 PPG.  The question will be, can the  Rockets keep up their high field-goal percentage of 47%? Keep in mind the Spurts are shooting at 45% per game, should be a close one.

The Rockets haven’t lost since Chris Paul returned to the lineup after injuring his knee in the season opener. Paul will require a full contribution from Kawhi Leonard along with Aldridge and Green.  The real reason isn’t the Rockets offense thats been helping the team out, its their defense rebounding percentage. Last season, the Rockets finished 21st in the league and this season, they are leading the league in defensive rebounding.

Kawhi Leonard first game back from a 27 game absence was against the Mavericks the other night and he showed some greatness of why he’s one of the game’s best all-around players. In his long-awaited debut Kawhi Leonard hit 6 of his 12 shots to finish with 13 points, 6 boards, 1 steal, 1 block and 1 assist. While he’ll probably play more than the 16 minutes that Kawhi played against Dallas, it’s doubtful he’ll play close to his normal game. Kawhi opens up the court for everyone else and he’s a master of defense. What Does Kawhi Leonard’s Return to the Court Mean for the Spurs? With his return, means he will bring the Spurs back to being a threat and a contender in the West.

Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against teams with winning records

While Houston averaged a healthy 110 points per game without Paul, the team has averaged 119 points since his return. Something tell us it will be a different story tonight as they face the Spurs. Everyone and their mother is picking the Rockets to cover the large number. Even though the Rockets will have the edge tonight with the home court advantage, go against the grain and ride with the underdog and for a bonus the stats love the under.
