2018 Zurich Classic is Adding First Tee Walk-Up Music

Zurich Classic

The 2018 Zurich Classic will be a tad bit different this year. It is already a different type of tournament in that it is a two-man team format which is like no other on TOUR. Now this year, golfers will have the opportunity to pick walk-up music to the first tee. Yep, like walk-up music that baseball players get to choose when walking up to the plate.

It seems like the PGA TOUR is pulling out all the stops in trying to market and appeal to the casual golf fan but does golf need this? Another tournament that feels a bit different is the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The Par-3 16th hole is a wild animal where fans are yelling at the drop of their lungs the entire time.

Which, had a lot of the golfers complaining that fans are getting out of control. Can you say, snowflakes? Look, players need to get over fans yelling at them. IT HAPPENS IN EVERY OTHER SPORT! Now, yelling explicit words, talking about family members, or yelling during backswings is a different story. However, just because a fan walks the entire course with a particular player and is heckling them the whole round, is not bad.

All right, back to the walk-up music. This is fascinating to me. What will the music be like? Will there be some off the wall music? Will the most be country? Here is a look at what we think some golfers will use.

Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer

Spieth and Palmer are both Texas guys. You have to believe they are going to some type of country.

Pick: If You’re Gonna Play in Texas – Alabama

Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson

This one is tricky with Rose being from England and Stenson from Sweden. So, I am going to go with something popular overseas. Maybe something from Michael Jackson.

Pick: Beat It – Michael Jackson

Charley Hoffman and Nick Watney

I am going off the wall here. Both guys are a little older and probably liked the old school rap. Hoffman rocked a mullet though, so that makes me want to go like Def Leppard.

Pick: Empire State Of Mind

Patrick Reed and Patrick Cantlay

This one will not be hard to decide. Is Patrick Cantlay really going to disagree with the current Masters Champ? I think not.

Pick: Radioactive – Imagine Dragons

Justin Thomas and Bud Cauley

Two young guys from the United States. There would be no better walk-on song for the two young guys then…..

Pick: I Believe We Will Win – USMNT
