Two of the hottest teams in baseball collide Sunday in St. Louis in an interleague rubber match between division leaders. The Cardinals had won 6 in a row until they were routed on Saturday 8-2 by the Astros. Paul Goldschmidt homered to tie the St. Louis franchise record with 6 consecutive games with a home run, but it wasn't enough as MLB strikeout leader Gerrit Cole (12-3) improved to 7-0 after allowing just one run (on the Goldschmidt solo shot). Cole now sports a 1.87 ERA since June 1 after striking out 7 batters and only allowing 4 hits in 7 innings. Astros star shortstop Carlos Correa, in his second game back from a fractured rib, hit a grand slam in the 3rd inning to give the Astros a 6-0 lead, and they never looked back, winning Saturday's matchup 8-2. Both teams are now an MLB-best 8-2 in their last 10 games.

But the evening wasn't without its drama despite the lopsided score. Cardinals 3B Yairo Munoz took out Correa at 2nd base in an effort to break up a double play while trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning. Munoz slid through the bag and spiked Correa's right elbow in the process. Correa would finish the inning but felt numbness in his fingers afterwards and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the 9th. Astros manager AJ Hinch called Munoz's slide "brutal" and "unnecessary."

The visiting Astros will have lefty Wade Miley (8-4) on the bump against Cardinals RHP Dakota Hudson (10-4). Miley sports a 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 100/38 K/BB ratio over 121.2 innings pitched this season. With a win in his last start, Hudson became the first rookie pitcher to win 10 games for the Cardinals in the first 100 games since Shelby Miller in 2013. Hudson has a 3.61 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and an 81/50 K/BB ratio over 109.2 innings. In 6 starts against the Cardinals, Miley is 2-3 with a 4.41 ERA while Hudson makes his first career start against the Astros on Sunday.
