MLB: Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 8:10PM ET (Chase Field)

Jon Lester (8-6, 3.97 ERA) vs Patrick Corbin (8-11, 4.76 ERA)

Line & Odds: Chicago Cubs -110/ Arizona Diamondbacks +100 – Over/Under: 9.5

The Arizona Diamondbacks host the Chicago Cubs for the second game of their three game series. The Cubs took the first game of the series 8-3.

The Diamondbacks seem to be reeling at the moment, losing five of their last six games. However, they still hold the second and final wildcard spot by a good margin, so there is still time to turn it around. In Friday’s loss to the Cubs, David Peralta hit a two run homer in the fifth inning while Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run in the sixth to complete the runs for Arizona on the night. Catcher Chris Herrmann had two hits in the contest and PH Brandon Drury added a hit in his one at bat.

Taijuan Walker was overwhelmed early in this one giving up three runs in his first two innings. Overall, Walker allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings to suffer his sixth loss of the season. Relief pitcher T.J. McFarland allowed five hits and three runs in the final two innings. Next on the mound for the Diamondbacks will be Patrick Corbin. In his last start versus the Cubs he didn’t fare too well allowing 10 hits and seven run in three innings.

The Chicago Cubs just snapped a two game losing streak and must win consistently in order to keep their back to back World Series hopes. Kris Bryant has been one of Chicago’s top hitter this season hitting .284 with 20 home runs, 49 RBIs and 73 runs. Bryant had three hits in his three at bats with an RBI in the victory over the Diamondbacks. Kyle Schwarber and Alex Avila each hit solo homers while Javier Baez contributed with a hit and an RBI in the win as well.

Starter John Lackey played well enough to earn himself his 10th win of the season. Lackey allowed four hits and three runs with three walks and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings. The bullpen did its part in securing the victory and allowed just one hit and no runs in the final 3.2 innings. Jon Lester takes the mound Saturday night with an 8-6 record and a 3.97 ERA. Lester has struggled to find the same form he had last season.

  • 10-5 ATS in their last 15 games
  • 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of their last 6 games

  • 3-6 ATS in the last 9 games
  • 11-5 ATS in their last 16 road games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 17 of their last 25 games

Lester and Corbin feature a really good pitching matchup. Corbin is coming off two straight losses and looks to turn it around against a team he has gone 3-1 with a 5.48 ERA. Lester has had his struggles against the Diamondbacks as well going 2-0 with a 4.95 ERA in five career starts. I’m betting on the Cubs bat to bring it in this one and overwhelm Corbin from the start.

Pick: Cubs -110
