Doubleheader Game 1
Baltimore Orioles (14-26) vs New York Yankees (24-16)
MLB: Tuesday, May 15th 2019 3:05 ET (Yankee Stadium)
Baltimore +235, Yankees -255 Over/Under: 9
David Hess (1-4, 5.51 ERA) vs J.A. Happ (2-3, 4.36 ERA)
This series has been rained out twice already, so today the Orioles and Yankees will put on a doubleheader. This first game starts at 3:05, while the second game is TBD sometime later in the evening. The forecast for today is mostly cloudy, with a 0% chance of precipitation until 5pm, when there will be scattered showers ranging from a 5% chance all the way up to 45% at 7pm. It’s possible the second game gets rained out, but they should at least be able to get through the first.
Baltimore Orioles Preview
The Orioles are going into this one with the worst odds of the series so far. At +235, they face a serious uphill battle today in their first game. David Hess has struggled so far this season, losing 4 of 5 games and posting an ERA just .01 below the teams 30th ranked average of 5.51. The relief behind him isn’t inspiring either, and the batting isn’t much better. Trey Mancini (3.18 BA/16 RBI/7 HR) and Dwight Smith Jr. (2.86 BA/27 RBI/8 HR) headline their batting order, and the outfielders have been putting together solid seasons. The rest of the crew has been uninspiring though, and they’re a long shot to keep up with a deep Yankees roster. David Hess is the major concern for them, as he ate a brutal 15-3 loss in the Orioles last matchup vs New York.
New York Yankees Preview
Injuries continue to dominate headlines for the Yankees this season, but today they’re banking on a big return from Aaron Hicks. The 29 year old center fielder has a chronic back condition, and missed the first 40 games of the season but with a new conditioning routine he feels ready to return after a five game rehab stint at the Triple-A level. If he can return to last season’s form (.248/.366/.467 with 27 HR’s and 79 RBI’s) he’ll be a major asset to a Yankees roster that’s really testing its depth this season. J.A. Happ is starting on the mound for the Yankees in their first game today, and he performed well in his last start vs the Marlins with only one hit in 5 innings.

MLB Lineups New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles
While rain delays are always a drag for teams and fans, maybe having a couple days without play will help an ailing Yankees roster. With so many injuries, this could give them the chance to get their lineups in order and come into the matchup fresh. With such a marked pitching advantage over the Orioles, this will be an easy win for the Yankees at home today. -255 is steep, but I just don’t see how Baltimore can bring home a win today riding the right arm of David Hess.
The Pick: New York Yankees -255
