The image featured in the article is of Hy Myers of the Brooklyn Robins hitting an inside-the-park home run in the first inning of Game 2 of the 1916 World Series, the last time the Red Sox and Dodgers franchises met for baseball’s championship! The beginning of the end is officially here as the Boston Red Sox get ready to host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Fenway Park for the World Series title.
For most if not all year, the Boston Red Sox have been seen as the best team in the MLB. Led by the trio of Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez and Chris Sale the Red Sox were able to win an MLB leading 108 games in the regular season. The start of the playoffs were a bit of a struggle for the Red Sox as a whole, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that by just looking at the box score as they defeated the Yankees in the ALDS three games to one and the Astros in the ALCS four games to one. There are still concerns for the Red Sox no.1 player Mookie Betts, who is still struggling to get his offense going in the postseason. He has yet to hit a homerun and has just three RBIs with a batting average just over .200.
If anything you should look at the fact that the Red Sox are in the World Series with their best player playing so bad because of the collection of players they have around him. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts, Steve Pearce and Andrew Benintendi have all picked up the slack offensively, but if they want to assure themselves a World Series title they’ll need Betts at his best. In the pitching department, the Red Sox have been a middle of the pack team in the postseason. Pitcher David Price continues his struggles in the postseason with a plus 5.00 ERA and Rick Porcello hasn’t done much better with a 4.22 ERA. Luckily, starters Chris Sale (3.48 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) and Nathan Eovaldi (1.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) have been able to play up to postseason standards. It’ll be interesting to see if all the parts can come together and play well.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a pretty eventful postseason thus far beating the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS in four games before defeating the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS in seven games. Offensively, they’ve been led by the trio of Yasiel Puig (.333, 1 HR, 4 RBI), Justin Turner (.279, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and Manny Machado (.250, 3 HR, 9 RBI). Machado is validating the Dodgers management decision to give up so much for his superstar production and will look to bring the World Series title to Los Angeles. He can definitely do it as Machado has excellent history against the Red Sox David Price (.293, 5 HR, 8 RBI), Rick Porcello (.342, 2 HR, 5 RBI) and Chris Sale (.316, 1 HR, 2 RBI). So expect a big series from him. 1B Max Muncy and Cody
Bellinger have been huge disappointments in the postseason hitting well under .200 with double digit strikeouts for both (Muncy leads the postseason with 18 SO). The biggest reason they are where they are is because of their pitching staff. As a unit, the Dodgers were 7-4 with a 2.79 ERA while holding opposing batters to just a .206 BA. Clayton Kershaw continues to show why he is one of the better pitchers in the game today and by far the ace on this Dodgers team with a 2.37 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. These are amazing numbers, but to do them against some of the best teams in the league is elite. Also, you can’t talk about the Dodgers without mentioning their steller bullpen, which is arguably the reason they made it passed the Brewers in the NLCS. Kenley Jansen, Pedro Baez, Dylan Floro and many more have been at the top of their game and could be the key to bringing a World Series to Los Angeles.

The Dodgers and Red Sox are ready to battle it out for this exciting World Series matchup. Both rosters are loaded with stars ready to make an impact and it should be very exciting to see who can come out on top. There are just too many inconsistencies with the Red Sox for me to give them the edge here. Until Betts and a few other Red Sox players show that they are up to the challenge the Dodgers pitching staff should have the advantage.
