MLB Picks Boston Red Sox vs Minnesota Twins
Let the countdown begin, we’re officially less than one week away from Opening Day. I personally will be glued to the TV and my phone all day next Thursday and I can’t say that I won’t have anything riding on a few games. However, Opening Day itself is an awesome day if you’re a baseball fan. It gives you a reason to stop and enjoy the game you grew up watching as a kid as you sported your favorite jersey and repped your favorite teams’ ball cap. I know that the only thing most of you will care about today is March Madness (me included), but don’t pass up this opportunity to cash in on today’s featured game. Maybe you can find room for this game on one of the four TV’s you have set up in your living room between all the wings, nachos and beer.
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox enjoyed what most would consider a dream season in 2018. They won over 100 games, cruised through the playoffs on the back of AL MVP Mookie Betts and a dominant lineup and crushed the Dodgers on their way to hoisting the World Series trophy. Will they get complacent this season, or will they be eager to defend their title? Defending their title will not be easy, the AL East will be tough, especially with their rival Yankees deploying a lineup with a few monster hitters. You all know who they are, so I’ll do you the courtesy of forgetting to mention them…Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
There’s been one unexpected source of pure hitting this spring for the Bo Sox, and his name is Rafael Devers (3B). His more patient approach at the plate has this young swinger seeing the ball well and producing an impressive line of .395/.409/.605. He has the most hits on the team by a wide margin (17) and he’s putting a lot of pressure on opposing pitchers. At this rate, he should best Eduardo Nunez for the starting position come Opening Day. What is most important to highlight and the reason I think you should tune in for at least the first couple of innings of this game, is ace Chris Sale will be taking the mound. As you all know, Sale is one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. He’s a strikeout artist and has a knack for making opposing hitters look downright foolish. If there’s any reason for you to give up one of the four TV’s you have turned on today, it’s Chris Sale.
Ah the Minnesota Twinkies, talk about one of the more frustrating teams in the majors. They’re notorious for giving their fans a glimpse of hope and then crushing their souls. For example, going from 103 losses in 2016, to an American League Wild Card spot in 2017 with 85 wins. Fast forward to 2018, is this the year they’ll put it all together and win the division? Is it possible to win the pennant? Nope, back to a below .500 record and another excruciating season. Okay, I’ll take it easy on the Twins from here on out. I actually do think this team is underrated going into 2019 and I have them slotted as my most valuable pick to win the AL Pennant. Minnesota, please do me and all your fans a favor and put it all together for once, just once, we’re begging you.
A big reason why there was so much buzz about the promise of the Twins was because of a pair of big-time prospects in the system. Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton were the two guys set to save this team. Neither has been Superman or Batman and they certainly don’t wear a cape, but one is finally starting to live up to the hype. Byron Buxton is looking impressive at the dish this spring and that’s putting it lightly. He’s been on an absolute tear hitting .438/.472/.906, to go along with four homers and a team-leading 14 RBI’s. He’s also hustling on the base paths, swiping 3 bags. Is this finally and I mean FINALLY the year Buxton breaks out and lives up to the hype? For all of us watching, I hope and pray.

Chris Sale vs Kyle Gibson…just let that sink in for a quick second…okay you don’t even need to think about this one. Look for Sale to find his groove in his last start before he takes the mound on Opening Day. Although the records don’t say it, this is a no-brainer for me, and it should be for you too.
