Philadelphia Phillies are still in the hunt for the NL Wild Card spot. The Boston Red Sox have been out of the AL Wild Card hunt for more than a week now. Nevertheless, the Phillies remain 5 games behind the Washington Nationals. But the Phillies have been stagnant the last 10 games (5-5 in those games) and currently sit with only a 3.8% of making it. The Mets who are a .5 a game behind the Phillies in the standing have a better chance. Red Sox look to disrupt tonight and take the Phillies out of the playoff picture for good. Tonight will be the battle the aces (based on club pitching statistic leaders alone), with the Sox starting LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (17-6, 3.73 ERA) and RHP Aaron Nola (12-5, 3.70 ERA).
In a very important series, the NL East leading Braves battled against the Phillies, and they ended the series even. But the Phillies had to win the last game of the series last night to do so, winning the game 9-5. And they were all over the place to do so: four players ended the game with 2 RBI and the team totaled 4 HR and 2 SB. Furthermore, the Phillies bullpen was stellar, limiting the Braves to 1-6 with RISP, a reliever got the win, 3 RP accumulated holds and Hector Neris closed the game with a save. Great outing last night and hopefully they can build off that win and gain some momentum into this one because they need it.
After a 5 game losing streak, the Red Sox finally got a win against the Blue Jays last night. The Red Sox have been lost in no man’s land as they have a competitive team, but the already out of the playoffs. And this uncertainty reflects in their play. In the last 6 games they were outscored 16-36. They were swept by the Yankees and got shutout twice versus one of the worst teams in the AL, the Toronto Blue Jays. At least Mookie Betts holds a .370/.452/.741 slash line in the last 7 games with 3 solo HR.

Phillies need this win and I see them winning behind their starting ace, Aaron Nola. Plus their bats were alive in the series against the Nationals. The Sox were awful against the Blue Jays of all teams.
