After a long home stretch of varying results, the San Francisco Giants traveled to New England to battle the Boston Red Sox, winning the game 7-6. Since both teams have been out of the playoff picture for more than a week, this series will be less tense as both hope to end the season with some dignity. The Red Sox went 4-6 in the last ten games, Giants went 5-5 in the same span. The Giants will start RHP Jeff Samardzija (10-12, 3.72 ERA) against RHP Jhoulys Chacin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) (has only played 5.2 IP with the Red Sox).

The Giants surprised many when they decided not to trade away their assets and prepare for next season. In retrospect, Bochy probably regrets this decision since they didn’t make the playoffs yet again. But one of those players that could’ve been traded was SP Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija has been playing like his former self out there, with a sub-3.75 ERA and double digit wins. His WHIP in the last 15 games is .98. He looks great to say the least, and really could’ve contributed to a playoff team, especially with his team-friendly contract. But this looks like a good matchup today and hopefully he can build up this end of the season to be a trade asset for the off season.

Chacin in the other hand was a player on a playoff teams that was released because of his poor performance (3-10 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP). Now he’s with the Red Sox making his debut. His career stats aren’t too bad, 77-85 record and a 3.98 career ERA.

I’m going with the Giants in this one, I wouldn’t be surprised with Giants sweeping the Sox, especially because of how inconsistent the Sox have been in the last few weeks or season for that matter.
