The Texas Rangers and their ageless wonder Bartolo Colon will be taking on the hottest team in baseball tonight in the Boston Red Sox. The Sox are on a nine-game win streak, albeit against shaky competition, Royals and Nationals. Call me a homer, being born and raised in New England, but I’d say there’s a strong chance the Sox take this one. Strong, but not definite. Especially since Chris Sale is starting, the Rangers will likely struggle to find offense against this pitcher who has dominated their lineup the last few years. Even the Rangers’ better hitters have not done well against Sale, Shin-Soo Choo is hitting .091 against him over the last five years. Adrian Beltre, a former Red Sox player, is only hitting .125 against him. On top of that, none of the Rangers’ starting lineup is batting over .300 and Texas is 24th in team batting average this season.
Bartolo Colon is looking to become the winningest pitcher from Latin America, he’s currently at 245 wins, but he’s facing the best hitting lineup in the league tonight. The Sox and their group of young hitters are on fire as of late. Colon may be 45 but he still usually goes at least six innings in his starts but keeps his pitch count under 100, only going over 100 one time this year. If the Sox wear him down with long at-bats, he could be pulled early, and the Rangers bullpen has been the source of some headaches for them this season.

When it comes down to, the Red Sox are back at the top of the power rankings, their bats are on fire, Yahoo Sports referred to them as the “unbeatable Red Sox” this week, which is obviously and exaggeration but speaks to the decisiveness with which they’ve won recent games. Despite all the evidence that the Sox will trot to a win, it’s baseball and anything can happen, even the best teams drop games. Bettors looking for a high risk-high reward bid could put money on the Rangers, if you believe that Colon has enough energy in his old legs to beat the best team in the MLB.
