The Boston Red Sox look for a sweep as well as their seventh straight overall and have yet to taste defeat in August. Boston currently holds the best record in the majors and has raised the question if this is the best team in Red Sox history. JD Martinez is currently chasing the triple crown as he only trails in batting average and leads the AL in home runs and RBIs. Boston got even more good news as Rafael Devers returned to the lineup with a 2-run homer in his return from the disabled list for a strained left hamstring. The Sox have won the last three starts of Rick Porcello who will take the mound looking for his fifteenth win on the year. Porcello is coming off what is his best start of the year against the Yankees where he pitched a complete game while just allowing one earned run including retiring 21 straight batters at one point.

The Blue Jays have seemingly given up on the playoff chase for this year and showed that by moving some of their more valuable assets at the trade deadline. The Jays ave struggled against Boston losing 12 of 15 so far. Toronto will be thin with their bullpen as their starter was chased in 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday night and had to use a total of six pitchers to get through the game. The Blue Jays have been absolutely dominated at home by the Red Sox losing 16 of 20 and allowing 25 home runs during this stretch. In addition to that they have managed only 2 wins of the last 15 at the Rogers Centre against Boston. Ryan Borucki will try to break this run of bad luck while on the mound and is coming off his first career win where he went eight innings of four hit and one unearned run ball to get that win.

This American League East is just about wrapped up already with a nine game lead over the Yankees. Boston has been one of the greatest teams ever and are in a groove with a 9-1 record in their last 10. Porcello has solidified his spot atop the rotation and Toronto has shown a struggle with a 1.95 ERA at the Rogers Centre in his last four starts. Borucki for the Blue Jays meanwhile will be seeing Boston for the first time in his career and doesn’t have but will just be making his eighth career start. This Boston team is rolling and Toronto just doesn’t seem to be able to keep up look for this to continue and Boston to keep up their winning ways.

#RedSox and Nats paid a combined $14,337,188 in luxury tax.

Per the AP: First $13M funds player benefits and 50% of the remainder funds player IRAs. Rest is divided among non-taxed teams.

So Yankees get $23,878.35 — less than one Giancarlo Stanton plate appearance.

AP reports #RedSox paid $11.9 million in luxury tax. To put that in some perspective, they paid $47.5 million to have Pablo Sandoval go away and a $30 million penalty to sign Yoan Moncada. The tax is hardly some big deal.

#RedSox did not lose a player in the Rule 5 Draft.

As expected, #RedSox passed on making a selection in the Rule 5 Draft.

18 years ago, @therealmanny99 signed with the @RedSox.

#BlueJays made a surprising pick in the Rule 5 by picking someone who is 18-years-old and has never pitched above rookie ball. On the surface, seems pretty far fetched to think this will work. Atkins thinks otherwise:
