Cincinnati +135, Chicago -145. Over/Under: 10.5

Cincinnati Reds Preview
The Reds are currently sitting last in the NL Central, but at only 6.5 games back they could be much worse off. The team’s pitching is ranked 4th overall with a 3.53 ERA, while their batting is ranked 22nd in the league, with 207 runs at a .220 average. Pitching is the strength here, and today they hold a distinct advantage over Chicago. Tyler Mahle is 2nd on the team behind ace Luis Costillo, and despite the losses he’s pitched well, with a 1.1 WAR to prove it. Their batting order heated up last night to edge out a win, as Joey Votto scored 2 runs and Eddie Suarez & Yasiel Puig hit home runs. They haven’t been able to maintain momentum as well this season, but yesterday proved they can go toe to toe with the league’s best. Even with their last ranked pitcher in Andrew DeSclafani taking the mound, they still managed to win. Tonight they have the clear pitching advantage as well.
Chicago Cubs Preview
The Cubs are sitting comfortably atop the NL Central, and there’s a lot to like here. They have the 6th ranked pitchers with a collective 3.69 ERA, and their batters have scored 265 runs at a 2.57 average. They’re performing among the best in the league, and are a formidable opponent. Tonight, however they’re starting Yu Darvish, who’s had an up and down season. He’s thrown 62 strikeouts, and his ERA has steadily been improving but 5.06 is far from ideal. Their batting crew is on a roll, headlined by Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Kris Bryant and Willson Contreras, who’ve all put together good performances this season (they all have at least 11 HRs, 31 RBI’s and a 2.79 average or better).

MLB Lineups Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs
Yesterday, even with a marked pitching disadvantage (DeSclafani was at 4.60 heading into the game vs Kyle Hendricks at 3.21) the Reds managed to rally a win. Tonight, Cincinnati has the pitching advantage, and has won 4 of their past 5 vs the Cubs, with 3 straight wins heading into today’s matchup. It’s looking like it’ll be a close game today, but I gotta give it to the Reds here.
