Game 1 of this American League matchup between the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians ended gave a great baseball show. After eight hard fought innings, the Red Sox managed to tie things up before Carlos Santana’s spectacular walk-off home run gave the Indians the win. The Indians are now one game above the Twins for the first seed in the AL Central, while the Boston Red Sox are eight games below the Tampa Bay Rays for the last playoff spot. The two teams go back at it tonight, who’s taking Game 2?

The Red Sox 2018 MLB season ended with a great postseason run that led to their ninth World Series Title. However, the defense of their title hasn’t gone well so far with the team currently sitting 7.5 games below the Tampa Bay Rays for the last Wild Card spot. After an inconsistent first half of the season, the Red Sox have started the second half even worse with a 13-18 record, losing the last seven games, despite averaging a little over six runs in this stretch. Rafael Devers leads the offense with 152 hits, 90 RBI and 24 home runs, while Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Andrew Benintendi have combined for 527 hits, 279 RBI and 84 home runs. Chris Sale will be starting tonight. He has struggled this season with a 6-11 record topped by a 4.41 ERA and 206 strikeouts. Sale also has a 5-8 career record against Cleveland with a 4.80 ERA and 136 strikeouts. The Red Sox need him to start performing if they don’t want to slip any further in the Wild Card Race.
