Comerica Park and the Detroit Tigers play host to the Baltimore Orioles for an MLB duel tonight.

The Baltimore Orioles have started 2018 slow and this last series didn’t help at all as they dropped three straight to Boston over the weekend. Maybe the rainout Monday was the best thing for the Orioles, who dropped to 5-11 on the season and is trailing Boston by 8.5 games in the AL East. Last outing the Orioles were limited to six hits and five walks with Trey Mancini crushing his second homer while Adam Jones went 2-4 with an RBI single that scored Craig Gentry. Dylan Bunny (0-2) claimed the rough loss as he allowed three runs (only one earned) on seven hits with two walks. Kevin Gausman will get the nod for Wednesday’s game, it’s his fourth start of the season. He is 1-1 with a 6.60 ERA, a 1.60 WHIP, six walks and 15 strikeouts over 15 innings of work this year. Gausman earned his first victory of the season in his last start, which came at home against the Blue Jays last Wednesday. He threw six innings, allowing three runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts as Baltimore won 5-3. Gausman is making his seventh career start against the Tigers in which he has gone 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, seven walks and 28 strikeouts over 35 innings.

The Detroit Tigers are looking to turn their season around and are hoping Tuesday’s win is the starting point. Francisco Liriano gave up both runs on five hits and a pair of BB with four relievers tossing shutout ball. The Tigers had nine hits and five walks with Victor Martinez leading the way with a homer and a pair of RBI’s. Jeimer Candelario gave Detroit another RBI while Leonys Martin and Victor Reyes scored. Matthew Boys takes control of the slab tonight facing Baltimore for his third career matchup. He comes in 0-1 with a 1.38 ERA, a 0.615 WHIP, one walk and five strikeouts over 13 innings of work. Boyd recorded a tough no-decision in his last outing, which was last Tuesday on the road against Cleveland. He threw seven innings, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts in a 2-1 loss. He has no record against Baltimore to with a 13.50 ERA, a 2.85 WHIP, six walks and seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings of work. Boyd is 7-9 with a 4.28 ERA, a 1.269 WHIP, 52 walks and 111 strikeouts over 153.2 innings in 29 career appearances, 27 starts at Comerica park.
