MLB Baseball: Tuesday, August 20, 2019 8:10 PM EST (Minute Maid Park)

Line & Odds: Tigers (+130), Astros (-150) - Over/Under 9

Yuli Gurriel's two RBI game was enough for the Astros to beat the Tigers in the first game of the series.

Houston put up four runs in the first inning then added another in the fifth. Detroit's errors in the first and second innings did not come back to bite them. George Springer was walked twice while Gurriel was the only Astro with a multi-hit game. Five Houston players struck out twice.

Detroit came swinging the bats but could not take advantage of many opportunities, leaving 11 runners on base. The Tigers tallied 14 hits against Houston pitching. 10 of those came when starter Wade Miley was on the mound for 5 2/3 innings. Despite the number of hits, Miley only allowed three runs and struck out eight in his outing. Two solo shots in the sixth and seventh cut the Houston lead to 5-4. Roberto Osuna later picked up his 28th save on the season.

Veteran righty Edwin Jackson got roughed up in the first inning, allowing four runs. The Astros would later score again in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Robinson Chirinos. Jackson walked four and struck out six in five innings on the mound. Three Detroit relievers followed up and struck out a combined six Astros.
