Game 3 of this American League series between the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Lions ended in a shutout win by the visitors, who finally got their first win of the series. David Montgomery’ had a career game posting twelve strikeouts and earning his first career win for the Royals. Both teams are miles away from the playoff race and sit at the bottom of the division. The Royals have lost eight of the last ten and the Tigers seven of the last ten, who will the series finale this afternoon?

After winning the World Series in 2015, the Kansas City Royals are on pace to miss out on the postseason for the fourth consecutive season as they sit fourth in the AL East and 26 games away from the Tampa Bay Rays for the last Wild Card spot available. The Royals started the second half of the season winning nine out of eleven games, but immediately went back to losing ways with a 2-13 record since July 25th, but still averaging almost five runs. Whit Merrifield leads the team with 152 hits, 59 RBI and 13 home runs, while Jorge Soler, Alex Gordon and Hunter Dozier have combined for 322 hits, 209 RBI and 65 home runs. The Kansas CIty Royals are starting Jakob Junis this afternoon. Junis has struggled this season with a 7-10 record topped by a 4.88 ERA and 130 strikeouts, but he has a great 6-1 career record against Detroit with a 3.19 ERA and 53 strikeouts. The Royals need him to perform today if they want to end the series with a win.
