The New York Yankees have gotten to a bit of a sluggish start going 7-7 in their first fourteen games. They won game one of this series 8-6 on Friday before seeing game two postponed to tonight. Today the Yankees will play a doubleheader with the second game starting at 7:10 PM Eastern Time. In game one the Yankees will start Luis Severino. He enters with a record of 2-1 and an earned run average of 3.50. He has shown signs of success striking out twenty batters in eighteen innings, but has also has walked seven batters. Recently acquired, Giancarlo Stanton, still seems to be trying to settle into his new team and has come out of the gates aggressive. This has led to a few home runs, but also many strikeouts which has raised some concern in the media. To win game one today, it will be crucial that Severino has a solid outing. If he allows some early runs, it could be a tough game for the Yankees.

The Detroit Tigers come into Sunday’s double header having only won four games so far this season. They will send Francisco Liriano to the mound for the first game of the double header. Liriano enters with a record of 1-1, but has a low earned average of 2.13. One concern for Liriano is his strikeout numbers. In just 12.2 innings pitched this year, he has just seven strikeouts. While this is not an immediate concern, it would be nice if he would be able to strikeout batters more consistently, rather than having to rely on his defense, which could make a mistake. Today will come down to whether or not Liriano can go deep into this game. If his offense can give him a comfortable lead, expect the Tigers to win this game.
