Detroit Tigers: The Detroit Tigers need a win here to snap a five-game losing streak. The Tigers have scored five runs in their last three games and three or less runs in 10 of their last 14 games. The Detroit Tigers have lost 21 straight games when scoring three or less runs.

Do you remember when the Tigers finished a season with a 68-34 record and third place in the AL Central division—you know, the good, old days? It’s a shame the ball club has sunk so low that even a losing season would ever be considered a positive, but that’s what wallowing in subterranean levels of disappointment can do to a fan base, especially when they’re on pace to have the worst record in the league. The Tigers, who have lost 10 of their last 11 games, have sunk lower than the Baltimore Orioles at this point. They currently sit in dead last in the AL Central division with a 30-69 record. There is no fixing those sorts of struggles this late in the season. Even the Mariners have beaten them in the first two games of their four-game series.

Boyd will do his best to deliver on some hope when he steps to the mound for Sunday’s run-in with the Mariners. The 28-year-old Bellevue native has given up four or more runs in six of his last seven outings. However, he recently held the Philadelphia Phillies to five hits and two runs in six innings, while accumulating eight strikeouts. He is currently throwing a 4.07 ERA with a 6-8 record. Nicholas Castellanos leads the Tigers with 108 hits and 36 RBI while Miguel Cabrera and Niko Goodrum have combined for 174 hits and 71 RBI.
