Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays
MLB Regular Season, Tuesday at Rogers Centre Toronto, Canada at 8:07 PM (EDT)
A pair of AL East rivals kick off a set north of the border on the diamond. The Boston Red Sox are on the road for the first game of a three-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night. Boston closed a four-game series at home with the Yankees Monday night: they dropped Sunday night’s contest by a 10-5 score. Toronto was swept on the road by Tampa Bay as they were dumped 8-3 in the finale of that set Sunday afternoon. The Red Sox own a 10-6 edge in the season series this season, including taking three of four at home in the last series between the teams July 15-18.
Trends put the Red Sox in front.
The Sox are coming out of a weekend set versus the Yankees. Boston won Friday 6-1 but then fell in both the weekend games. In the Monday finale, the Red Sox were shut out 5-0. The Red Sox entered Monday third in the AL East, 17.5 games behind the Yankees: they stood eight games behind the second wild card spot. Mookie Betts (run, RBI), Brock Holt (run) and Sandy Leon (run, RBI) each had two hits in the loss. Betts (his 27th) and Jackie Bradley Jr. (his 18th) each homered in the defeat. Rick Porcello (12-12) took the loss as he allowed six runs on seven hits with no walks and a strikeout over four innings of work.
