Cincinnati Reds (56-61) at Washington Nationals (63-55)
MLB Baseball: Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 at 7:05 PM ET (Nationals Park)
Moneyline: Cincinnati Reds (+110), Washington Nationals (-120)
Reigning NL Player of the Week and Reds rookie sensation Aristedes Aquino set an MLB record last night with his 8th home run in just 12 games in the majors, but it wasn't enough as the Reds fell on the road to the Nationals 7-6. The shorthanded Nationals were without several key players on the injured list (Max Scherzer, Juan Soto and Ryan Zimmerman) while several relievers were unavailable after a busy weekend series against the New York Mets. Nationals closer Sean Doolittle picked up his 27th save of the season after pitching for the third time in the last four nights.
Doolittle, who blew his 5th save of the season Friday night in New York, entered with a 7-4 lead in the 9th. He gave up a first pitch home run to pinch hitter Phillip Ervin, and continued to get hit hard as he allowed a single then a double as the Nationals' lead was cut to 7-6. Doolittle popped Josh VanMeter up to end the game with runners on first and second to get out of the jam and keep the Nationals in the first NL Wild Card spot. The Reds fell to 5.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second NL Wild Card spot. Despite a plethora of injuries and a leaky bullpen, the Nationals have won 5 of their last 7. Keep reading to see why you should pick the OVER in tonight's matchup at Nationals Park.
