Its the World Series and two of major league baseball’s most famous franchises meet in a match up for the ages.Tuesday night the Los Angeles Dodgers will head into Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox.The Dodgers beat Milwaukee 5-1 in the NLCS to advance to the World Series for a second straight year. Los Angeles starter Walker Buehler gave up a home run to Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich but finished strong through 4.2 innings. The Dodgers then went through four relievers before Clayton Kershaw sealed the deal.
Boston has dominated the playoffs with easy wins over the New York Yankees and the Houston Astro’s. Houston was able to win game one of the ALCS before Boston rattled off four straight victory’s. Game ones starting pitching match up will seem like an all-star game. Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale are two of the games best lefties, going head to head in one of the games most historic stadiums is going to be exciting to watch.
Both pitchers have had their problems in the past, whether its Sales health concerns, Kershaws postseason rep or even Sales somewhat underwhelming postseason history. If both pitchers are on, this could be a historic pitching match up.
During the regular season Kershaw had a 2.73 ERA and 5.34 strike to walk out ratio. Meanwhile, Sale had a 2.11 ERA and a strike to walk out ratio near seven during the regular season. These are the two best pitchers in the game to never have won a ring. That is going to change for one of them once this series is over. Boston is seeking its fourth title since 2004, which broke a drought that famously lasted since 1918. The Red Sox are seeking their ninth World series title. If they win it would put them in third place tied with the Athletics for the most World Series wins.
One pitcher who could play a big role is Nathan Eovaldi, who came over to Boston in a summer trade from the Rays and has been the team’s best starter in the postseason. He’s pitched 14.1 innings with a 1.88 ERA. The Red Sox have won every game in which he’s appeared. The Dodgers won their first title back in 1955 when they called Brooklyn home. They won again in 59,63,65,81, and 88. Their drought is one of the longest in the league. Last year they fell short losing to the Astros in game seven. This year they are looking to end that drought.
Predictions for Los Angeles Dodgers Vs Boston Red Sox
This series is going to stack up well, both teams are very talented and have the potential to shut down opposing lineups. Bostons David Price’s up-and-down performances this October or Dodgers Hyun-Jin Ryu getting roughed up by the Brewers in the NLCS could effect the pitching lineups. The Dodgers offensively are a team who can grind down a pitching staff. They’re at their best when they see a lot of pitchers and stress out who ever is on the mound. Los Angeles also loves to play match-ups, meaning they’ll flip around their lineup mid-game to get looks they like.
The Red Sox will need to get off to fast start if they want to win. Boston has won every game when they have scored first in this postseason. The two games they didn’t score first, they lost. During the regular season the Red Sox were the best team and have since dismissed the Yankees and the Astro’s with ease. The Dodgers have a ton of talent and anything can happen in a four to seven game series, but the Red Sox just dont show any signs of slowing down.
PICK: Red Sox -145
