Draftkings MLB Picks Houston Astros vs Boston Red Sox
Sunday afternoon baseball in Houston, TX will feature the last of a three game series between the league’s past two champions, as the Astros take on the Red Sox. Houston has managed to take the first two of the series while defeating Boston 4-3 in both matchups. These teams are very familiar with one another. Just a week ago, the Astros closed out a 2-1 series win against the Sox, in Boston. They will go for the sweep this time around, back at home.
The Astros will send ace RHP Justin Verlander (8-1, 2.24 ERA) to the mound. Verlander is playing some of the best baseball of his career this season, thus far. That’s saying a lot for the former Cy Young and MVP award winner. Verlander carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, in his last start against the White Sox. He ultimately won the ballgame by giving up just one hit. In his career, he is 5-5 (2.89 ERA) in 18 starts against Boston.
As for the Red Sox, LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (4-3, 5.43 ERA), will get the nod. Rodriguez has found a decent rhythm this season following a slow start. After dropping his first two starts of the year, Rodriguez led the Sox to victory in his next seven, receiving a win in four of those. Following a loss in his last outing, Rodriguez seeks a victory over the ‘Stros. In a career 3 starts against Houston, Rodriguez remains winless with a dismal 0-2 record and 9.90 ERA.
The Houston Astros remain in driver’s seat of the AL West and show no signs of slowing down. The Astros are on pace to remain serious competitors for another championship. However, they are facing a bit of adversity. Star outfielder George Springer has suffered a hamstring strain that will have him placed on the 10-day IL. Houston’s best team includes a healthy Springer, which means someone must step up in the outfield.
The Boston Red Sox face an uphill battle the rest of the year, as they’ll be chasing the Yankees and the Rays in the AL East. The defending champs have seemed to finally recover from an April World Series hangover, but have yet to look like last year’s squad. The champs reached the .500 mark just a few weeks ago. They’ve yet to prove that they can compete with the AL’s best. Sunday is an excellent opportunity to seal a win and build off of it.

MLB Picks Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros
While the signs do tend to point towards a Houston victory, I believe this game has trap written all over it. Following back-to-back one run victories in the series, it’s too tough of a call in my opinion. However, I’m finding an overwhelming amount of evidence that the game will be low scoring. With another strong performance from Verlander and an injured George Springer, I’m taking the UNDER in this one.
