Houston’s season series record against Seattle improved to 17-1 following the 3-0 win Tuesday night.

The Astros tallied just five hits in the win, but three of those hits were for extra bases. Alex Bregman hit his 40th homer, bringing his RBI total to 109. Aledmys Diaz had an RBI double and Josh Reddick knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice.

Gerrit Cole picked won his 15th straight decision after going seven innings and striking out 14. He allowed no runs, no walks, and just two hits. Cole is in the running, with his teammate Justin Verlander, for the AL Cy Young Award.

Houston is 8-2 in its last 10 games. Their race with the Yankees for the league-best record and home-field advantage in the playoffs continues. The Astros are now 1 1/2 games above New York for that title.

The Mariners had just four hits in the game while striking out 18 times. Every Seattle batter struck out at least once, seven of which were sat down multiple times. Seattle is second in the league in strikeouts at the plate.

All of the Astros’ offense came against lefty Tommy Milone. In 4 1/3 innings, he allowed three runs, three hits, and three walks. Milone was handed his 10th loss on the season.

The Astros will send out former Cy Young winner and six-time All-Star Zack Greinke. In nine starts with Houston this season, the right-hander is 7-1 with a 3.48 ERA. Greinke posts a 17-5 record and 3.05 ERA in 32 starts on the whole (was with Arizona before trade). In his last four starts, he gave up nine runs and had 20 strikeouts over 23 innings.

Rookie Yusei Kikuchi has the mound for Seattle. The lefty is 6-10 with a 5.55 ERA in 31 starts. Kikuchi has a 6.43 ERA in three starts against Houston. His last outing against the Astros was solid, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings.
