MLB Draftkings Picks Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers

Being 1st in the Al West the Astros have started out strong this season with a record of 13-6. Houston is 9-1 in it last 10 games and are looking to keep a solid winning percentage against the Rangers. Texas is currently 10-8 on the season and is 3rd in the AL West. Last night these two teams matched up with the Astros coming out on top of a final score of 7-2. The player of the game had to be Justin Verlander, who pitched 7 innings while only allowing 1 earned run with 8 strikeouts.

Houston Astros

Currently the Astros are ranked 18th overall in terms of batting in the MLB. As of today the Astros have 9 players in their batting lineup that have over a .250 batting average. Their most consistent batter up to date has been Jose Altuve, who has had at-least one hit in 8 of his last 9 games. If you look at the numbers he is one of the best hitters on the team, averaging .316 batting average and having a team high in hits with 24 and 8 homeruns. Even with being ranked 18th in batting, the Astros are still 1st in their division because of how well they are on the other side of the ball.

In regards to pitching, Houston is on of the best in baseball where they rank 3rd. One of the major reasons that the Astros are 1st in the AL West is because the pitching staff is averaging a 2.95 ERA. Their pitching rotation is solid, with players like Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander, and Wade Wiley, who together are averaging a 3.18 ERA. While Verlander is the most know pitcher in the rotation, Gerrit Cole has stood out with having 36 strikeouts to Verlander’s 38. These are the top two pitchers on the team and it will be interesting to see who leads the team in strikeouts by the end of the year.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers have been lighting up their opposition on the offensive side of the ball where the currently are ranked 12th in the league with a .244 team batting average. Just like Houston, the Rangers have a very solid hitter in Elvis Andrus who currently has a .365 batting average. With this being his 10th year in the MLB, he has shown no sign of slowing down by leading the team in many categories. The Rangers hitting has helped them come out on top in alot of close games this season but needs to improve as the season continues.

Unlike their batting the Rangers pitching has not been anything special this season where they currently are ranked 26th out of the 30 MLB teams. The reason the Rangers have a 10-8 record is because they are giving up 5.23 runs a game and only have 2 shutouts on the season. Their number one pitcher, Mike Minor, has been consistent throughout the season where he is 2-1 while averaging a 2.60 ERA with 22 strikeouts. Through 27.2 innings pitched he leads all these statistical categories on the Rangers.

Free MLB Pick Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers

Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Astros where he is currently 1-2 on the year while having a 3.24 ERA with 25 innings pitched and 36 strikeouts. The Rangers will have Adrian Sampson as their pitcher who is 0-1 on the year with a 5.93 ERA and only 9 strikeouts. In the first game between these two teams, Houstons pitching and hitting were dominant while the Rangers were outplayed in every category. Gerrit Cole is 2nd on the Astros in strikeouts and his 1-2 record does not necessarily reflect how well he has been playing. That being said I think the Astros will win based off of the pitching matchup and their offense that played consistent last game.

Pick: Houston -240
